Trees/Animals/Minerals/Etc move slightly after zoom

  • **GAME BUILD #:**april pup (tho i’m pretty sure i’ve noticed this before)
  • GAME PLATFORM: Steam
  • OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows 10

:arrow_forward: ISSUE EXPERIENCED

When you zoom in, there’s a slight pause, then everything that isn’t the ground, will shift in a seemingly random direction. It’s like the terrain and the objects upon the terrain are scaled separately, then after a pause it’s checked and any error is fixed.

:arrow_forward: FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

every single time you zoom, the amount and direction of shift varies

:arrow_forward: REPRODUCTION STEPS

  1. Zoom into something like trees, grass, a sheep, a tile of gold, whatever.
  2. stop zooming
  3. observe for about two seconds
  4. Notice sometime in that two seconds it, and everything else on the map, shifts slightly.

:arrow_forward: EXPECTED RESULT

Presumably the terrain and objects are scaled in perfect unison. Im sure that’s easier said than done.

The usual note:
Win10 has a built-in screen recording feature, started by pressing Win key+Alt+R, then pressing it again to end the recording (or you can press Win+G to open the Game Bar, then manually start recording). No need to use a smartphone camera.

The topic itself:
Unfortunately, this is related to how the AoE2DE graphics engine works on a core level.

In the ~5 years since AoE2DE went live, they’ve already reduced this effect - it was significantly worse in the launch version. You probably aren’t going to see it eliminated in AoE2DE’s lifetime.
