Troll Buff

It’s good that they buffed the trolls, but it’s too bad they buffed them in the wrong direction. The fact that a troll dies under three hippeis is certainly a problem, but not a major one. The main problem is that it doesn’t deal damage.
This is an example of an age 3 battle, where two trolls from the very beginning, and the draugar appeared only in the middle of the fight.

When the fight was won, it became clear who’s worth the money.

Even in a perfect matchup, all 15 trolls built were lost during a winning game. That’s 2600 wood and 235 favor, including their upgrades. And teach Husksuppe how to dodge a Toss. Everyone can do it on my 1300.

I would completely redesign troll ability.

Their problem is that they don’t scale well in large groups. The aoe boulder with throw back is actually a huge hindrance for them. First, they can’t critical mass a target with that aoe, because the first bolder will push the target out of the range of the others, so they can’t function like a normal ranged unit. Draughers don’t have this problem, their aoe stacks very well and they scale well in numbers.

second, the aoe is so far that it will usually push the target out of range.

Minotaurs suffer from the same problem too, but they are generally a bit more well rounded.

My idea would be to remove the throw back ability from trolls and just replace it with plain aoe damage and that’s all. They are different enough from the undead archer for it to work differently.

You’ve made a good point. But even if we did that, we still don’t address any of the main issues with this ability. The 3-second cast time often leads to it being constantly interrupted if the target is killed in combat or moves out of range. During this time, the troll doesn’t deal any damage at all; it simply stands idle. And if the stone is finally thrown, it’s guaranteed to only hit large groups of enemies or stationary targets.
This also doesn’t address the fact that trolls, due to their catapult-like mobility, die faster than frontline infantry.

It will address everything.

Speeding up the animation is easy. But it won’t fix anything as long as the aoe has a push back attached to it. If it is a pure aoe ability, speeding it up then fixes everything.

We could give him the ability to deal crash damage to buildings with his ability. This may compensate for knockback issues.

i LOVE what they did with trolls for retold with the special ability.

i was so suprised when some guys like Boit etc said that Trolls are strong cause for me they felt always more on the weak side.

I like that the devs look at trolls and try to buff them but i agree that since they are purely range they should do more dmg (i would buff their accuracy and make the special do more dmg and either fly quicker or do a bigger AOE dmg)

I just watched Boit’s game today. He killed his first troll in TC, and he didn’t build another one the entire match. This was a game after the troll patch. I think he was just joking.

Well, that buff didn’t do much, as I said, the problem is somewhere else.

The troll may not be bad as is, but it’s definitely bad for 15 favor.

These guys are cost the same amount of favor (15). This is a winning game in which the einherjar spawned randomly.
