Managed to get a better zooming quality for the King and the Heavy Mounted Crossbow.

Added with Alexandros chronicle.

(double posting due to that damn 403 error thing…)

So the king is holding a “Calice” (gobelet) or a “horn”.

The Heavy Mounted Crossbow got “goldish” helmet type, which align with some other elite units variations, pretty cool. They keep the upper brigantine style armor, but the pants are more “renaissance” style like the mediteranean merchant / hand canoneers.

There is so many cool details on the upgrade variant, love them.

Heavy mounted crossbow is quite beautiful

If the Mounted Crossbowman does not go to other European civs, looking like that, I will eat my hat.

And he is actually very accurate. I found a chronicle written in 1400 something by a Swiss guy where there are some mounted crossbow, the one in the chronicles are abit heavier because it was during the musket era.

I also managed to see some wodden swiss medieval tanks in that chronicle, basically a battering ram framing with culverin inside, pretty damn badass for the time. (not a real tank, just a protective wood layer to approach the fortress).

What is pretty cool too is that it’s a shared unit, and not a UU. I really like the game getting more shared/regional units to enhance civs and add abit of variety, way better than per-civ graphics in my opinion.

About the king, if you pay attention to the zoomed screenshot, you can definitly recognize the long beard of the viking king on the DLC cover-art, not saying it’s the same guy, just saying the guy on the cover is a norse king and that the long beard is present ingame now.

I managed to try getting some other high quality shots of missing unit, like the elite jomsviking but it seems they are not shown yet.

They definitly should yes. My guess is: Franks, Teutons, Britons, (Celt ?), Italian, Burgundian, (Spanish ?), (Portuguese ?), Saxons, and I may have forgot some central europeans …

The question is… Will it be a cav archer replacement… Or a mounted anti infantry addition.

The slav-architecture civs may also be candidate for it, if it’s not a replacement. If it is, then only the one with non-nomadic thematics in their design will have it, like the Poles.

Should be. Not a fan of having both.

We (Poles) lived right next to the steppe, half of our heraldry derives from tamgas. Of course we had cavalry archers.

Please start practicing. Don’t trust the devs.

What if other European civs don’t use Mounted Crossbowmen because Microsoft lawyers decided it’d be offensive to Vatican (one of the Popes issued a bulla against using crossbows)

There is many deserved criticisms towards how the game is managed, and there is alot of requests; but the trend to regionalization is quite a good thing since Dynasties of India (except TTK) imo.

Yeah that’s the Polish people backstory, but is it the Poles (ingame) backstory. That’s why Poles may be candidate for the mounted crossbow too, it depends on what part of the Poland backstory they represent.

Nothing is perfect, but nothing is all the time bad too.

Personnally, as I very long term fan of the game (like I played the Day 1 Conqueror cd version with many bugs when I was a child), I think the game simply evolved.

The campaigns kept the original identity that gave me that fun back in the cd version. And the civs additions, regional units, tend to follow what the first expansion pack was into. The Conqueror added so many things to the game, which are now core gameplay, but were not there at Age of Kings. And same goes for every dlc since in my opinion.

Once more, my opinion is the one of someone only playing solo, or against AIs skirmishing. So I can’t really say if the ranked part is well or not, but my guess is it’s not that bad or the game would have died yet.

Well to me 3K is a different topic. It’s a very unique dlc type, meant to be different but not different enought to be a spin off. It’s always difficult to do sub-civ content because you got the original civ there and you can’t really focus on it for a “new content to purchase”, so you have to add more thing with the base theme.
Yes people may dislike it, some may love it, personnally I really like it for what it brought to the game, mechanics, graphics, and the balancing that occured at it release.
History can never be perfet so everyone enjoys it, espescially in entertainement.

First non siege regional unit will be the Longship, the Dromon was already kinda the first regional ship, while Catapult Galleon the second, so Longship the third regional ship type. I wonder if they will add more regional ships with time.

I just hope the Danes won’t speak modern Danish - that would break immersion for me as a Dane myself. The most accurate would be for them to speak Old East Norse (could be shared with Varangians), Old Danish, or Middle Danish (spoken roughly 1100-1500) - but I don’t really know what those dialects/chronolects sounded like, and I imagine that only a few specialists and nerds can speak them properly.
So I wouldn’t actually mind if they just keep the Vikings’ dialogue, even if that’s based on a different dialect of Old Norse.

Is there any official source that confirms that the big tree is the Danish wonder?

I see it on the description on fandom, but that could be wrong (I really hope it is).

I’m looking forward to the DLC, but it annoys me that the Danes civ seems to lean heavily into the pagan viking trope (when we already have a Viking civ for that).
Denmark (and Norway and Iceland) was Christianized well before Harald Hardrada’s time, and I think there’s a missed opportunity to showcase a bit of post-Viking Age Scandinavia. I worry that the Danes will just be “extra Vikings” rather than have a distinct identity in the game.

No

Many, even me, thinks that the Three is the Varangian Wonder, maybe to represent the Giant Sacred Tree of the Upssala Temple.

There is other Wonder in the Screenshots, but many believe is the Saxon Wonder, because is near other building with West European arquitecture set.

This building of one of the Screenshot could be the Danish Wonder, but i can´t identify which Building is.

Or is a Editor building and false alarm.

…That is a Market with the new bridge surrounding it.

There was the ALT text for the images on the official DLC page that listed it as such. It depends on whether you think that’s an official source or not. I’m more inclined to think it is.

So far, the only source is the description (alt text) of the screenshot with the large tree, which is referred to as Danes Wonder. Recently, they changed the screenshot because one player in it had the wrong architecture, the description disappeared. But about a day later, the same description was reinstated. If it was wrong, they could have corrected it while they were at it, so it might be true.
But I’m still not 100% convinced.

The building that might be the Saxon Wonder is also seen in one of the video clips:

Almost certain that this is the Saxon wonder – the architecture style is conspicuously Anglo-Saxon, and the tower is heavily based on that of All Saint’s Church in Earl’s Barton, an Anglo-Saxon church (and, perhaps not coincidentally, the first building pictured on the Wikipedia article for Anglo-Saxon architecture).
