That would be lazy. Making a huge scenario with all Shadow story in one map and calling it a campaign is much better.
For those who never played AOE3, Shadow happens around 1866-1876 in the north-west.

Just imagine if it turns out to be some kind of mystical-divine story in AoM style
The story of the Black family
… You start at the Siege of Malta in 1565 and follow the entire story fighting against the Osseus Circle in the start of the Seven Years’ War in 1756, finally defeating them when several South American nations are in revolt in 1817…
Blood: You play as Morgan Black and the Knights of St. John (a mix of Spanish, Italians and Sicilians) (I started remaking this campaign for 2 HD and 2 DE during the pandemic, but I left it on the second mission out of laziness)
Ice: You play as John Black and his mercenaries (basically a mix of Teutons, Burgundians, and Bohemians)
Steel: You play as Amelia Black (you would play as the United States, which would be basically the Britons but without the longbowman, but with the organ gun, Feitoria, and rocket cart; that is, a mix between Britons and Portuguese)
Yeah! A new formula for a dissater.
I’ve thought about this. It should have a bunch of different starting civs that allow the slow telling of the Napoleonic Wars. Future DLCs would eventually focus on other events, like the Revolutionary War.
The Napoleonic Wars could have made an excellent campaign for AoE3 . A missed opportunity.
Yes, I even had planned an Age of Empires 3 campaign DLC called “Battle for Europe” for Suleiman (16th-century Ottoman expansion), Gustavus Adolphus (Thirty Years’ War), and Napoleon (based on Ridley Scott’s 2023 film)… before that, a DLC called “Return of the Kings” porting the campaigns of Pachacuti (the pre-TLC version), Moctezuma, and Francisco de Almeida (taking advantage of the African civilizations from Age of Empires 3)…
One is the next Chronicles DLC probably focused on Rome and should be released around autumn.
The other one is probably the next AOE2 DLC to be released sometime in 2027. It is rumoured to be a Vikings DLC but I do not want to see a Vikings split. The game does not need any more splits of European civs. The two viable civs from Europe are probably Romanians and SerboCroats. But there are still empires left out like Tibetan, Tangut, Kanem; there are civs to add from Meso- and North America, Africa etc.
The Serbs and Croats should not be one civ. That’s extremely offensive. Also, the Romanians should be called the Vlachs to cast as wide a net as possible.
Calm down. Thank you for your feedback. Serbs and Croats as two different ones then.
If Serbs croats romanians do get added wonder what shared regional units they can all have.
I don’t think there is a need for a regional unit. They can have the Monastery as a regional building with new bonuses.
People have been talking about it for a long time, and even TheViper didn’t seem opposed to the idea.
Despite the hostility in some of the responses, no such umbrella term exists civ-wise. Although Bosnian, Croatian, Montenegrin, and Serbian (BCMS) are essentially the same language, their identities are deeply distinct. There is no way to lump them together under a generic term like “South Slavs,” or even “Western South Slavs” if you include the Slovenes.
Honestly they could do that with Albanians included with like 5 campaigns + revamped Dracula campaign: Ottoman campaign (Mehmed II?) for Turks, Matthias Corvinus with a first level of John Hunyadi siege of Belgrade for Magyars, maybe a pre-Ottoman/Djuradj Brankovic for Serbs, Tomislav(?) for Croats and Skanderbeg for Albanians.
Feels like this could seal the deal with Balkans at some point tho still hoping that next one will be Africa. Kinda empty there without civs like Nubians and Kanembu.
Last two dlcs gave regional unit lines so this could be the new normal going forward.
I hope not.
Regional units should only be used when necessary, not constantly. Otherwise they raise the complexity of the game and make it harder to get into for no gain.
That was my idea too.
Yup, and the final scenario could connect to the death of Skanderbeg, showing how Albania couldn’t drive off the Turks without him.
I didn’t think of that as a first scenario! I hope having the new Balkan civs as antagonists won’t cause problems.
I would prefer Lazar, who died at the inconclusive Battle of Kosovo, the final scenario. This mission would be called Vidovdan, after the national holiday commemorating that day.
Yup, sounds good. Even though I would try to minimize enemies from the new Balkan civs, I thought the first Tomislav scenario could cover his predecessor Muncimir’s reign as a way to set the stage of the region. Three exiled Serbian princes would enter Croatia looking for refuge, and each one would bring their own mission: One of them would want to overthrow their brother, one of them would want to invade Bulgaria, and I’m not sure what the third would want. Maybe something with Frankish Pannonia? Either way, after completing the chosen quest, the people you just fought would ally with you to push back the Magyars, establishing them as a unifying threat right away.
Regarding Skanderbeg, the first scenario would be played as the Turks, since he spent roughly 20 years of his life as a Janissary. The rest would be as the Albanians, covering his desertion through to the second siege of Kruje.
And we can say that in cases introducing regional units/buildings, the disruption was severe.
Firelancers were overpowered, Champi were op in Dark Ages; the latter is currently severely nerfed so much that Incas and Muisca have the lowest win rates; Monastery churches were nerfed
In a Balkan DLC they can focus on Monastery Churches; no need for anything new.
