Two empty "unknown app" DLCs at SteamDB: the next 2026 DLCs?

This isn’t true. 2 people were made redundant, that was it.

Please stop spreading misinformation.

Okay, okay, then I didn’t say anything… better, I thought CA had been through the Grim Reaper last year…

No. If you read any of the news about it, you would know that is not the case.

I haven’t heard about CA being dissolved.
Ptobably a misunderstanding.
Nothing to pinpoint someone though, nobody is harmed by that. Nobody can feel personally attacked. “Spreading misinformation” would require an intent to do so, which I don’t see here. Which would also be absurd, as I can’t see any interest spreading misinformation about that.

There is also the fact that Cpature Age team =/= Rome ad Bellum team. They both worked togehter, but are not the same team, from what i know.

So, will we be getting Nordic or Balkan civilizations in the upcoming DLCs? Or does anyone here have an idea of what’s coming next? I feel like the discussion has really strayed from the original post, and at this point, I’m pretty confused by everything being proposed.

So, is Capture Age still working on the Chronicles series?

Currently, we only have as solid info that the Viking-Regional garrison flag is already done and shown on Last Chieftain patch images. That’s the only 100% valid info so far.

Of course they are, Punic War next, it’s a guess but it’s obvious, this winter. (app already in the steamdb, at least the next chronicle, we don’t know the topic yet)

Excellent, thank you very much. Hopefully, the Norse will finally have their unique architecture, and the Vikings will get their own campaign.

The Vikings already have many scenarios covering their actions in Northern and Western Europe, the Mediterranean and northern America.

What remains is their history in Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the Byzantine Empire.

But officially, the Vikings only have two scenarios in the historical battles; remember that the “Victors and Vanquished” scenarios don’t count because they were created by the community and reuse slides in their intro cinematics, making them unofficial pseudo-scenarios—at least from a creative standpoint. Besides, they could create a campaign where you start as a Viking in the early ages of the scenarios and eventually rise to become the Scandinavian kingdoms.

Unfortunately it is an official DLC now.

A full campaign featuring Harald Hardrada will still be fine imo.

But it’s a DLC featuring community-made scenarios; the fact that the developers officially released it doesn’t mean the content has to be 100% canon. They might have released this DLC due to a lack of material and a packed schedule—lacking the resources or time to produce new, original content—but that doesn’t mean “Victors and Vanquished” is necessarily canon.

And you’re right, a Viking campaign would be awesome.

+1 to this I also dont consider v&v as proper campaigns for missing classic civis.

Architecture is certain, campaign is not. I mean with out current infos.

They’re also gonna have their unique monks, sails, trade cart

Personnally just that already hype me enought to be impatient to have update in which this is going to happen.

It’s an official dlc, so they count. And remember that Forgotten Empire were a team doing community content before making official content.

Agreed., but not just him, viking entierly got enought material to have 3 campaigns that would not be remake of the VnV scenarios.

Issue is, the person I quoted does this a lot.

I am not claiming malice, just that they are constantly clumsy, and spreading misinformation is not helpful.

And they can just do obnoxious mass replies too

Misinformations are today’s world trademark sadly.
It’s extremly easy to get mislead, and then to spread the rain where it’s sunny.

We all tend to do that time to time, but the important is to recognize when we were wrong.

Lots of updates on the main app so far yesterday, no new update on the other dlcs so far. Could hint a patch soon™ as tournament for early july are done, US independant day over, and holidays on !

Any of you knows enought the past years scheduling / announcement logic of the devs for summer to start some guessing on a date for a DLC reveal announcement ? Do they tend to do release during july, august, or just after ? Is there any big game-con event during the summer where they reveal things what so ever ? Any track of microsoft key revealing moment would help figure out when we could expect some news. I’m really impatient to get at least few pixels to study and zoom in and try guessing shapes ! (yes I love doing that ahaha)

What do you guys think of Madagascar as a new civ ? Do they got rich enought medieval era history or is it a more recent timeframe matching ?

I also heard a lot about Barbary Corsair recently, but I think they’re more of a renaisance / age of discovery / age of sail timeframe.

Bucanners in the Caribbean could be matching the timeframe, but I doubt they would be added as a civ or a campaign focus, as they are more of a group of french pirates that did things rather than a Civilization per say. (however I’d love to play a Bucaneer campaign, yes because I love pirates ships !)

Zulu are also kind of more recent I think, but I’d love to have more african civs. I remember when they released African Kingdom, the architecture set, the campaign, I really enjoyed that design vibe they had for this DLC and I think africa can receive some more contents, there is a lot of story to be told.

There is also Korea / Japan that to me deserve some campaign love, why ? Cause they’re cool, no need more justification ahaha.
However I don’t see how that could fit into one DLC, as in, that’s two vanilla civs, having two non-new civs having each a campaign in a dlc is a very risky economic choice, and would probably need some kind of reworking of them what so ever. Then if you split them into two different dlc, that means you have to space them, release wise, to avoid overflooding the content with the same topic. That’s also a reality of game industry, variety is needed to avoid the player getting bored.

In a way, I’d love to see some expand to the Japanese, with more immersive units added to the game, either as real civ-based units or scenarios one. I think you all now get that I’m definitly more of a custom scenario lover than regular ranked skirmishing, so what would suits my wish doesn’t need to be ranked-compatible at all.
However I totally understand, as a game developper myself, that you cannot ignore the needs of the multiplayer community, especially in a game such as AoE2DE with all those tournaments, streamers, etc. That’s how they get the cash in, so multiplayer HAS to be considered, and I think it’s good too ! I used to play with friends online long time ago, but it was more playing with friends than playing online skirmishing.

There is also the knights of st john that could be an interesting candidate as a Civ, they got a rich history, a very unique warfare evolution over the time. Starting as crusader, tied to the hospitaliers, and ending with gunpowder while still being kind of knights. However I don’t know what name they should have, Hospitaliers are not legit as a civ name, knights of st john too is not a good civ name, and idk if Malta was their starting point so Maltese could aso not be adapted.
They however fall under the same problem as Venice, big enought for a campaign, but many not legit enought to be added as a Civ.

There are also some groups of people we don’t really have as civs ingame from the West-Balkans, Croatia is the one that comes to my mind first. But I don’t know the Balkan history to say if any of those area could be candidate for civ to be added to the game.

Of course Switzerland and Austria are candidate to me, as well as Savoy, Ireland, and maybe also Flemish, but they don’t all catch the “civ” tag, more of kingdoms for most of them.

In the end, lots of possibilities for the future of the game, and time will tell what we’ll be up to.

The V&V scenarios would count as official because they were officially sold as DLC by the dev studio.

That does not mean that they can redo them in a Vikings DLC but it will certainly harm the value proposition of the DLC.
