I was thinking of a sci-fi scenario where games were so developed, you could, for example, in age of empires 3, take control of every single unit, in real time, separately.
Like, I could be in command of the one middle miner on the lower side of the photo, through the entire game I would see “myself” mining, chopping wood or farming, and if I sensed danger, I could either run away or fight back, and while all that is going on in my head, so would the other 90 villagers in the game, and infantry, and cavalry, you know, like a hive mind.
Pretty much INFINITE APM, imagine the possibilities.
Granted, we are not there yet in today’s technology, BUT, is there a spin to this?
THE ULTIMATE MULTIPLAYER
Here is an idea for making team games INSANELY IMMERSIVE and fomenting on cooperation and coordination as a real settlement needs:
Instead of everyone having a single civ and aiding their ally by sending their own forces to the field, EVERYONE IS IN CHARGE OF THE SAME SETTLEMENT (Would take care of the annoying ally who uses everyone else as cannon fodder while they boom).
Each player would get a single role they must excel in to thrive, players that know their teammates could choose them by their strengths, for example, I suck at booming or keeping artillery alive, so I could be either in charge of infantry or cavalry, which I use efficiently.
As everyone has a single area to focus, fights would look WAY MORE INTENSE, since not even the best player can get as many APM (actions per minute) as 4 players can.
How to play - Other rules
- Each military player can create and upgrade units from their respective buildings, including natives, outlaws or consulate armies if available (consulate brigades that ship +1 type of units can be sent by either military player that has their type).
- The shipment point drops are divided further by type so everyone gets to decide.
- The economist can also control revolutionaries, pets, healers (So they also get in on some of the action).
- Artillery commander also controls grenadiers; the siege unit tag has priority in commands (Opri, mantlets…).
- Everyone gets a turn to send a shipment; you can still send the shipment your team member asks for.
- Teams should be equal numbers; when there are less than 4 team members, they can sort the extra roles between each other; if a team member leaves the going game… I dunno hahah, someone think of something! I can’t come up with everything! :v (Maybe another player would receive all of the units of the deserter, taking over their role)
One more thing, maybe so the players don’t get bored while waiting for infantry, cavalry or artillery/navy to be available, they could all get an explorer of their kind. The leader gets the default explorer, the infantry one gets an explorer skirmisher, the cav one gets a cav explorer, and the siege one gets a grenadier explorer. Then, from age 1 they can play cooperatively to gather treasures, and progressively increase their numbers.
I wonder if someone can mod this into reality (COUGH! assertiveWall, COUGH! COUGH!), there shouln’t be too many extra assets needed that I can think of (despite the explorers and maybe a counter of tribute cooldowns/totals).
I am sure this could be BIG for the game, it was fun playing while my brother sat near overseeing the map for me, he always alerted me of raids or if my army was walking into an ambush while I tended to literally EVERYTHING ELSE (How many times did I send a regiment forward, only to have them run into enemy fire because I was directing an idle miner alone, too many).
So, that’s all I got, what do ya think?
Good.
