Underperforming Research Upgrades

I saw a youtube vdeo about upgrades this morning and some that are useful and some they aren’t worth the resources. Need your take. Any of the research upgrades worth a skip?

Wood gathering level 3 seems like the only one not worth getting at any time. Mining level 3 increases the gold you’ll gather, so that one is only good if there are 2+ veins left and you have map control (just finish the match). In a long game food gathering 3 is good because it adds more value to farms and you use that resource the most.

Timing wise it’ll change between civs and strategies, but you usually get the first upgrades by 10 minutes. I find myself researching mining upgrades very late, but that is because I usually go for other sources of gold (relics, sacred sites, trade if I’m feeling cheeky).

I guess tree chopping is an upgrade I rarely ever get, feels like a trap in dark age especially, and has no noticeable returns.

Geometry is one of these upgrades.
Grants a trebuchet 40*20% dmg = 8 dmg.
Completely useless upgrade, maybe SOMEWHAT worth for English if you spam trebs and shoot units with them.

The Devs were ignorant (or just dumb?) enough to go back from Aoe3’s damage/resistance system to the old, outdated system of aoe2.
All damage is calculated in flat numbers in aoe2 and 4, compared to percentages and factors in aoe3(de) and aom.

In the aoe3(de) system, the 20% dmg would have counted for the ENTIRE dmg of the trebuchet.
New dmg = Total dmg *120%.
So the dmg would have been upgraded by 20% against units AND buildings AFTER including bonus damage.

When I first played the beta of aoe4, I could not believe my eyes, when I saw that the DEVS had gone back to the 1998 system of damage calculation.
On top of that, not ANY dmg is setup as a bonus factor, but all bonus as additive.
This is just plain stupid, does not make any sense.
In fact it makes the balancing impossible and is just completely outdated in the year 2021.
This is just the dumbest thing they could ever do.
