Unit sound mods

I made some mods so certain units speak different languages:

They’re all working on my end, but I need to know if they’re downloadable and work for everyone.

Urumis should be speaking Malayalam, but there’s no way I’m getting in contact with speakers of that language, and I’m not gonna use AI or Google Translate either.

The Mongol unit one also affects the Wokou Horseman, so I’m wondering if I should change it so it doesn’t (I had to figure out how to make the mod only affect specific units for the other two, so I can do something similar for the mongol one).

I’m also thinking of making a mod so Cetbang Cannon and Javanese Spearman speak Malay (using AoE2 files) regardless of which civ you revolt from. Might also make War Elephants speak Malay or Khmer.

Hey! It was a long time ago, but I had the pleasure of checking out the first mod on your list, and it’s a cool idea, but the audio for Mongol Units is outdated compared to others voicelines quality in AoE3 (not to mention painful cases like Oromo Warrior). Smugglers, I never would have thought it might use Tengri voicelines. I was always convinced it had must to refer to Japanese pirates. You’ve sparked my imagination. :upside_down_face: I didn’t check the Urumi case because I was playing my own mod at the time and used the voicelines from the Dravidians civ. from AoE2.

I think that as long as creating mods brings you joy, you should keep doing it, even if it’s just for your own satisfaction.

Meanwhile Stuart units speaking 12th century Gaelic :joy:

At least they remastered it, which I’m unable to do.

Maybe I’ll try remaking the Mongol with AoE4 voice lines? That’d also prevent the six-ish units from sounding the exact same.

Unfortunately, you’re right, and I’d like to believe they take care of it in the near future.

In what sense did they remaster it? I thought they just transferred the audio from one game to another without making any changes (as they’ve done so far).

Yes, I think that’s a very good idea.

I mean you could grab voice lines from Struggle of Indonesia so the Javanese Spearman speaks actual javanese and the cetbang… whichever language you find more appropriate I guess.

I’ll get around to recording Malayalam eventually.

You mean the mod? I think there’s a mod like that for AoE3, but how do I get access to the voice lines?

Would Javanese not be appropriate?

Yeah that mod. I mean you could ask the creators since they are around. (Or I could ask I guess.)

Javanese would not not be appropiate, Cetbangs were used all over the archipelago, so there’s dozens of options of which language it could speak.

Every individual Eclairer randomly speaks either French or Polish, I wonder if I could copy that for the Cetbang? Assuming I just gotta copy the soundsets information.

Edit: seems the devs had a similar idea, because there are two versions of the Cetbang in the scenario editor, and one always speaks AoE2 Malay (the other, only when you don’t use one of the civs that get them through revs). Javanese Spearman is unaffected by this however.

Edit 2: I was wrong, reopened the game without any mods active and the Cetbang doesn’t have any voicelines (when not set to Dutch or Portuguese). The other variant also disappears. That was probably caused by a mod then.

A new audio mod with Mongolian voice lines from AoE4 is up now. Currently it affects the Wokou Horseman, but I’m thinking of making a separate mod to make only that unit speak Korean instead.

The unit looks so generic it could be from anywhere. I went with Tatar (Tengri) because the unit shows up in a lot of places. :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit:
I’ll still make the more serious mods, but now I’m in the process of making a mod for the female Japanese skins with this girl’s voice lines. :joy:

Yes, you can do something like that. I even know someone who did it right and got a cool result. @Gamertron24717

Indeed 'cause by default, some units are silent if they aren’t being used by a civ, for example, the Russian crossbowmen.

In any case, I know of three ways to change the soundset in Cetbang. You can apply the same soundset to each civ separately. The second way is to base the script on the Eclairer unit if you want the script to use mixed voicelines. The third way is to modify the code so that the soundset is always used, regardless of any civ.

The best example of third method is a mod that, if I remember correctly, named "the unknown additive sound mod” but I’m not sure how well it will work after the latest update.

I’m hoping to get in contact with the Struggle of Indonesia devs to use their voice files like HoopThrower suggested, but I have no idea where to find them. Until then I guess my mods for the Indonesian revolution are on hold.

With that said, I was thinking of making a mod to replace the War Elephant voice as well, would Malay or Khmer from AoE2 work for them, or would it be better to use Struggle of Indonesia files for them as well?

And since I learned how to mod specific units without affecting other units that use the same voice files, I’m thinking of making the Wokou Horseman (currently affected by my Mongol mod) speak Korean. No idea if that’s appropriate though.

I got the mod up and now a few units speak Javanese or other Indonesian languages. I also included War Elephant speaking Khmer (Acehnese if you get them through the Indonesia rev).
Uprading Javanese Spearmen to Revolutionaries makes them speak the base civ language though.
