Units attack closest Target over commanded target

As of right now there are the following ways to tell units to attack something that are commonly used.

Attack Move
Patrol
Right Click

It appears that Attack Move and Right Click are one in the same now. Some people have suggested that setting your units to Stand Ground or No Attack Stance and then telling them to attack your target works, but I have had mixed results doing that. I lost some critical battles just yesterday due to my Hussars ignoring ***- I mean ***. Bombard Canons. Canons destroyed my Skirms, and my Hussars got shot down by the Persian Kamandaran. Happened many times that game, and it was aggravating every single time.

My Personal Suggestion:

Leave Right Click as Attack Move. (Better for new players)
Control Right Click as Attack Specified Target
Or vis versa.

Simlarly, I would also personally desire an Attack Move option that ignores buildings. Either built into Attack Move or Patrol to more or less change as few things as possible, while still giving players the ability to destroy everything in their path, or just get from A-B while engaging in unit fights.

I’m sure everyone invested enough to be here reading this knows exactly what I’m talking about when I say “What the crap? Don’t attack that house, get in the stupid fight. – NO, get in the fight. Gosh darn it, retreat you idiots, the fight is lost.”

Right-click should work the same as it has worked for 20 years. It has kept a reasonable compromise between attacking targeted unit and spreading between nearby enemy units.

Your suggestion would remove this functionality from game, which is bad for people who are used to it. I am currently not even playing the game, because I am waiting for previous behavior to be returned instead of current behavior which is similar to attack-move.

There already is attack-move in game, there is no need to execute it also in case of right-click. Possibility to issue strict “attack only this target” order with ctrl/alt+right-click can be added to the game.

Someone recently asked Hera on this stream what he thinks of moving right click attack move and even he said its really annoying I hope they bring it back. Its so frustrating to play like this. I just had 3 scouts tried to pick off a spear but one of the scouts decided the villager next to him was closer so he began attacking him instead and i lost 2 scouts even though 3 scouts should be able to kill 1 spear without dying

Hi @GMEvangelos we don’t see it on the Known Issues list, but this is definitely a top priority bug.

Just wait for the patch. They really should have hotfixed this though.

@Yorok0

I’m pretty indifferent when it comes to how it’s mapped. I would just like both options as I listed, the “default” way or the way suggested.

Another big patch came, still not fixed

Really? Everything seems fixed as far as I have tested.

I see 3 enemy siege onagers behind their lines.

After right-clicking each one of them with separate group of cavaliers I manage to quickly destroy them.

Issue is still a problem. Just lost a game due to mangudai deciding not to attack a treb after coming across a bunch of longbowmen. I was actualy spam clicking the treb and they just stood frantically on the same spot starting the attack animation on the longbowmen only to have me cancelling it with the clicking for about 5 seconds
 until they died to the longbowmen
 and the treb stayed at full HP

Please fix this asap.

You should show video example(s) of this issue, so that other people can exactly understand what is wrong.

I attached a link to an existing issue. And the title said it clearly.

This issue wasn’t solved even in March but was more rare. Units deciding to attack their chosen unit instead of following mouse command.

As far as I can tell this has been worse than it has ever been since DE released since the last patch

@GMEvangelos
Do you know if there is an update concerning this?
This exact bug happened for me this past Monday night.

Thanks!

Bump- still seeing this issue. Any update on the fix in the works?

Seeing as it has been a while since this was brought up, I would supper appreciate any new details or examples that can be provided to highlight this issue: including footage, a game replay (with the proper timestamps when it happens), and any other details from the current game build.

If you can get me that information, I’ll get a new task written up for investigation by the team!

Thank you for keeping the conversation going! :+1:
