Some interesting changes here. Georgians and Jurchens were underperforming, so their buffs make sense (and iron pagodas are probably significantly better now due to improved attack speed), pasture change seems like an overall nerf to me (but not entirely sure on that), Shu nerfed, Turks get a small eco buff (I predict complaints about it being insufficient).

Watching Romans as the top civ for months and then never getting touched every single time there is an update is kind of hilarious.

So lobbying does work it seems.

Guess I need to complain about the 3K even harder.

They’ve had minor scorpion nerfs. But their eco bonus has continuously gone untouched (and likely will continue to do so with power creep is progressing in the game). Romans definitely benefitted from the update removing supplies (removed arson and ignore the +1 attack on champions - but Roman MAAs/legionnaires didn’t need further buffs because they effectively got supplies)

But continue to dominate.

Yeah this is why I wasn’t happy with the infantry changes. It steroids all the good infantry civ’s stuff if left unchecked.

Its impressive that with the exception of Jurchen I havent liked a civ single civ of them since Dynasties of India

Even Georgians and Armenians are just bleh with their auras and boring tech tree and unhistorical yet boring gameplan respectively

I don’t even like the Jurchens that much.

  • Unfinished
  • Weird weak archery range for a civ that invented the most popular bow in East Asia

They are far from the god-awful of the other four, but they are not good by any stretch.

P.S. I just noticed that Romans actually got BUFFED in the patch! What the hell hahahaha!

I feel like all the changes of specific civs above the Shu are kinda missing the forest for the trees (except the Pasture nerf). They all are adressing the wrong things imo, altho maybe the Jurchen buff helps them

Wait, a Keshik buff?! A Turkish buff without a nerf to fast imp?!

Eh… their CA play is okay and their archery range play HAD to be quite a bit weaker than Mongols and Khitans for historical reasons

If thats your grips with the civ I think its not a lot to bring them down, altho Im also kinda salty about the lack of voicelines

I more meant their lack of Arbalester. But lack of Thumb Ring too is pretty stupid.

That’s more just pure incompetence. Speaking of lack of voice lines, I have Khitan voice lines fully written up (lost them and had to do the work again…), just waiting on them being recorded and we’re good to go!

Eh… Their crossbows being quite a bit worse than China is also not out place

Their heavy cav had to be their one and only speciality because everyone around did the other things better. If anything their lack of non castle heavy cav is the most annoying for me

I wouldnt be against them getting arbs but feels like a role the Grenadier already fills.

Bows however…

Kinda their thing.

The civ already has doodoo infantry, does not need to feel like a hyper-focused Chronicles civ.

Admitedly that bow appeared after the fall of the Jin tho

They kinda are, outside of siege and gunpowder they can only use cav. It wouldnt matter if the civ had complete barracks and ranges because they wouldnt be viable

I think its fine. Not many civs are hyperfocused on cav without good cav archers. As long as its fun, viable and not more one-tricky than Mayans its okay

No cav civ has both great gunpowder and siege either

Where? None of the changes affected them. Did you mean some other civ?

And towers/castles. Fortified bastions is a really nice tech, and cheaper university techs makes towers easier to upgrade.

Selim The Whinificent will be recharging for 62 seconds

Agree Romans should have received an additional nerf.
In general Romans still feel like the most braindead civ in the game - though there would have been so many ways to make that civ unique and interesting.

Most Changes are fine I guess. I don’t like just bluntly buffing Eagles afert bluntly nerfing them, but maybe this opens up some options to finally tweak them to a better, more stable place in the meta.

The nerfs to Shu and Wu are nice. Jians probably should get an Elite Upgrade or shadow upgrade or whatever at some point. But I think for the Balance of KOTD this patch is probably very good and we will see the new civs played, but not dominating the tournament. And that’s really nice.

The buffs I don’t really get are those to Georgians and Turks. I don’t see why they would need this kind of Buffs. Georgians are a well established meta civ at high elo on Arabia and the Turks buff mostly makes them only stronger where they already are.
I’ve seen a lot of request for buffing Turks lately, but I haven’t really expected this to happen because as far as I was concerned the stats were actually fine, even for Arabia which isn’t necessarily a map you would expect Turks to shine.

Georgian win rates are actually quite low (as in competing for lowest overall winrate), including on Arabia specifically and especially on Arena. They do well on hybrid and water maps though (presumably carried by free mule cart allowing early dock), but generally seem to be dying in the mid game (where their fortified churches take up vital wood to establish). The fortified church range increase directly addresses that. Aznauri cavalry I have no explanation for, but as it still doesn’t provide value until you hit 200 pop, it is still effectively limited to post-imp.

Stats do have their limitations (especially when one of the main sites I draw from is bugged - the bug I know about is Jurchen and Khitan games not showing up, but there could be others), but Georgians have been underperforming for some time.

It was used before then, but people are not sure how long before then. Either way, Jurchens have strong links with the bow due to hunting as well. Just seems weird that there is a bow named after them, and they have a wimpy archery range.

Meanwhile the civ has some weird defensive bonuses that I can’t find info on where that came from.

Gambesons buff. Romans exploit it very well.

:face_with_bags_under_eyes:

Romans don’t even have gambesons. They don’t need it because of doubled infantry armor, and legionnaires adds more armor in imperial age.

Yeah that’s my bad. Got confused with supplies.

Still, they haven’t exactly gotten weaker here.

A lot of these changes feel like they are buffing strong civs a hair away from being the top dogs. Almost like a “we want to shift the meta for a tournament” rather than actually helping the game.

Nothing for Gurjaras or Burmese. Seriously, just give Burmese Elephant Archers, at least let us have fun if you’re going to go insane.

I keep getting alot of lag with this new patch, even tried without the mods , when playing multplayer.0
