Usac Civ Crafting Revamp: Chimu take 2

With all the major changes to the area since this: Usac’s Civ Crafting Brainstorms Part 2- Chimu

Lets see: slinger is regional the swordsman and eagle is replaced and there are settlements! Also with another civ getting a resource discount on barracks techs gold free feels excessive.

Lets take a deeper dive into what could be done.

First things first: what can be retained? Well dropsites and houses double HP is probably fine? We still wanna play into the defensiveness of this civ and yhe research aspect is also retained. Well… uh… but Bolas is taken and slinger is here so…

  • Slingers +4 per age vs cavalry and +3 vs siege

To play into how Bolasi this slinger is.

  • Champi line upgrades free

possibly we dont even let em havE the Imperial and go all Bulgarian with this civ! This civ has Gambesons and it affects the unit now!

  • Tower and Wall and their upgrades (except watchtower) are available 1 age sooner. Guard Tower upgrade is doubled if researched in Feudal but you will be refunded that extra cost if you clicked that research button before Castle Age.

The most unique thing of all: play into that defensive style. So wait how are you researching tower techs sooner!? Well…

  • All University techs are split between Mill, Mining Camp and Lumber Camp

This is why you dont get settlements!

To explain where each tech goes:

Mill: Ballistics, Murder Holes, Siege Engineers

Lumbercamp: Tower upgrades, Ship techs, Treadmill Crane, Heated Shot

Mining Camp; Masonry Line, Wall Upgrades, Chemistry

Note this civ doeant get all those techs!

Team Bonus: Dropsite buildings construct 60% faster!

The Uu being uniquely not weak to any bonus damage except unique unit armor type, is fine and still niche!

But the other techs!?

Corded Leather: 3x damage bonus for Slingers.

the slinger here is your anti cav and anti siege unit! It also lets theM shred monks.

Siwa’s Sacred Smithing: Champis are gold cost is temoved 60% converted to food and gain +3/2 armor.

We wanna consider these Champis might be Bulgaresque meaning no Imperial upgrade! So whats the tech tree now!? But theyre also the Malay and Malians of Champis just not the elite version

Well… lets see! Assume every cavalry and regional unit other than slings and Champis are present here and ill list the current navy rven if thats gonna be changing really soon! Im also gonna list university just because its easier to remember. Even if they dont get a university Itself!

Missing Techs

  • Barracks: Arson, Halberdier, Eagle, Fire Lance, Elite Champi Warrior

  • Archery Range: Hand Cannoneer, Parthian Tactics, Cav Archer, Arbalest. Elephant Archer

  • Stable: Building

  • Siege: Bombard Cannon, Siege Ram, Siege Elephant

  • Dock: Cannon Galley, Fast Fire Ship

  • Blacksmith: Cavalry Armor

  • Economy: Hand Cart, Two Man Saw

so the biggest loss or change is the loss of Halberdiers but slingers really fill that gap if you can maintain some distance! Slingers still have min range so dangit the ever defensive Genoa Xbows are still better at fighting cavalry!

Oh look a civ with no skirmisher bonus. It just has really good skirmishers you WILL make FU because this civ has a possibly dangerous time fighting archers otherwise.

Are the numbers perfect? No! Not even close. Its still a cov uniquely without Hand Cart and also uniquely lacking Imperial Champis. So let this determine its strength. Early raids will likely be freely upgraded Champi rushes mixed with towers that you can all in on as Guard Towers if you are willing to spend an EXTRA 100f/250w. Oh and just like the Feudal Watch Tower this version of the guard tower has 20% less HP until Castle Age so 1200 instead of 1500 and it also doesn’t get any extra armor until that age either!

So is it better? Worse than the orignal take? I know this civ doesnt get settlements but if Im cramming the entire university into an already busy building the game might crash!

I almost wanna go so all in on slingers that this civ rejects the existence of Pikeman too!

Navally Im gonna wait for the changes to be live for a while

Now that we know everything its time to reconceprualize! And i still want this to be a civ without Elite Champ because interesting trch tree quirks make us all giddy. The fact slingers cpunter siege means their bonus damage booster can afford to be higher. Like 3x bonus damage increase. Because god that infantry bonus is so bad

Regional Units: Slinger and Champi like Inca, Muisca, Mapuche and Tupi.

Settlement not available though.

Unique Unit (castle): Maceman.

Heavy infantry unit, could be anti-stone buildings (gates, towers, castles)

Second unique unit (docks): Chincha Raft

War ship that can repair other ships.

OP don’t mentioned anything about unique units in this specific topic. In the other one the Maceman could be the most potential castle uu, but since the Chimu were a naval civilization, the Chincha Raft could be a potential second one, since now all the new civs from TLC have two unique units.

The technologies, bonus and other specs seems fine by me.

So let’s from the top it

Bonuses:

  • Champi line upgrades free (sans elite)
  • Slingers +4 damage vs cavalry and +3 vs siege
  • University techs are distributed at the storehouse with tower and wall techs available one age sooner except access to watch tower
  • Villagers carry 20% more resources and move 4% faster per age (both effects cumulative)
  • Gambesons effects all units

Regionals: Champi, Slinger but not Settlement

UU: Camaquen - Infantry with decent armor and bonuses vs standard buildings. Doesn’t have any armor types meaning no bonus damage taken

UU2: repair raft - Transport Ship replacement that can do area repairs of ships at half the normal cost.

UT1: Corded Leather - Every slinger bonus damage type is tripled

UT2: Sacred Smithing - Champis get 3/2 armor and have their gold cost turned 60% into food

So the gameplay is flood the Champi. It’s not elite but it has no gold cost meaning you can do excellent late game gold free armies of Champis and slingers throwing their bolases to kill horses.

No bonus for skirmisher unless Gambesons for all counts?

Not sure it’s balanced yet.

I’d have thought I was onto something’. Next civ I guess
