Very disappointed HRE/Otto were ignored in latest patch

I was really hoping all the civs would get some TLC, and many of them did, but it seems clear that HRE/Otto were totally ignored, despite both having been pretty stagnant for quite a while.

There were 4 new variant civs in the DLC, and 11 civilizations got updates. And the variants have ties to Japan, Byz, Mongol, and Delhi.

So when you combine all that, HRE/Otto/OTD were ignored and that can put them at a disadvantage as all the other civs got new perks, buffs, etc and the DLC civs have a lot more options when aging, etc.

Ottoman

  • The Istanbul Imperial Palace landmark is one of the worst landmarks in the game and needs work. The aura on it is too tight, because Otto has to build military around blacksmiths its basically impossible to have significant military production within the influence of this landmark. If you are going to keep this concept, give new/better upgrades, quadruple the aura size or remove it all together
    • The Vizier points really need another look. Akinji System sucks, only 2 eco upgrades (trade bags and anotolian hills gives a mining boost)…. Extensive fortifications sucks because of the timing to get it, etc. The one time unit dumps are meh. This whole landmark needs another look
    • My suggestion, if we are going to have 10 Vizier points.
      • Military School Amount +1 (already exists)
      • Another Military School Amount +1
      • Military School Production Speed (already exists)
      • More berries on Twin Minaret to accomodate 2-3 more villagers (currently only supports 4)
      • Trade Bags (already exists)
      • Anatolian Hills gives 10 sheep but no mining bonus but are collected faster
      • Supply drop (200 food, 200 wood, 200 gold, 200 stone), etc
      • Faster upgrades out of blacksmiths with military buildings influencing them
      • 2 Imam + 2 Mehter (single point)
  • The “Akinji System” concept is really dumb. Either let Otto have the horse archer as a unique unit or not, don’t make Otto players waste a Vizier point to get a unit

HRE

At the end of the day, HRE and OTD just remain way too landmark and relic dependent. No other civ damn near needs relics like HRE does. They have 2 unique units, a Prelate and the LK. Is that the fewest in the game?

Lets add some diversity to this civ by giving them some better food/wood unique units so they aren’t so heavily reliant on relics/landmarks. A new light infantry unit that is food/wood… Like a skirmisher unit that is a trash unit, or like a Halbedier that is a cross between an MAA and and a spearman… Then maybe a light/trash horse archer that is food/wood only in cost, low armor, etc.

This would make them a lot less one dimensional and aechen, relic, dependent.

All ranting aside, but hope they address some ignored parts of the game in the coming patches.

Totally agree with you Ottoman is the most balanced civ right now but their age 3 landmark is very bad. Here what i would do:

  1. Imperial palace aura need to effect globally.
  2. Either we should be able to get all vizier techs OR some less used vizier points need to have second upgrade,a very strong upgrade. For example janissary company can be chosed second time to give a strong upgrade.
  3. OR we dont do first 2 options and we can give that landmark a some kind of resource generation.Maybe when you build that landmark it can improve the feudal age landmarks in some way.

Yes, I agree. I remember liking HRE in season 1, but now they’re pretty meh compared to the other civs and variants… They actually have 3 UU units: the Prelate, the LK, and the Black Rider (which they added with the KoCaR launch patch)… but that’s still very few, and they’re missing at least 2 more UU units: the early Teutonic Knight (for Castle Age) from the Templar Knights civ, and the Hussite Wagon (since HRE used it until 1504, and it would be for the Imperial Age)…
