Videos cause crash (both Intro & Art of War tutorials)

Issue:

Videos do not play (both Intro videos and Art of War tutorials)

Reproduction Steps:

  1. SKIPINTRO Advanced Launch settings
  2. Intro videos causes crash, forced to use SKIPINTRO to enter main menu
  3. Art of War tutorial videos crash the game. Each of the 5 scenarios crash the game once the video is attempting to play.

Hey there @RobbieDPL! Have you worked through the troubleshooting steps here to see if any of them work for you?

My guess is that you are missing a critical file to play these videos. That, or if you’ve disabled / limited the creation and use of a pagefile on your computer, you may be running out of memory–thus causing a crash. Please feel free to attach a copy of your dxdiag.txt as a reply so we can see if there are any common threads.

Let us know once you’ve worked through the steps if they work/don’t work for you and we’ll see what else we can do!

  2. Updated ATI Drivers and MS Visual C++ Redistributables
  3. Disabling Steam Overlay does nothing
  4. Intro videos causes crash, forced to use SKIPINTRO to enter main menu
  5. Art of War tutorial videos crash the game. Each of the 9 scenarios crash the game once the video is attempting to play (after intro slideshows).
  6. NB: There are no error messages - only crash to desktop.

I am responding to this thread again as I am now unable to complete the 2nd May-hem challenge involving the Art of War Early Economy mission. After having lost all the mods from the GreatestTech event & now being unable to complete the latest challenges, I am desperate for some kind of aid in solving this issue!

Issue:

Videos do not play (both Intro videos and Art of War tutorials)

Reproduction Steps:

Here’s how to reproduce the problem:

  1. SKIPINTRO Advanced Launch settings
  2. Updated ATI Drivers and MS Visual C++ Redistributables
  3. Disabling Steam Overlay does nothing
  4. Intro videos causes crash, forced to use SKIPINTRO to enter main menu
  5. Art of War tutorial videos crash the game. Each of the 9 scenarios crash the game once the video is attempting to play (after intro slideshows).
  6. Removing the movie files from either of these two directories:
  • resources/_common/movies
  • resources/en/campaign/movies
    doesn’t work - there is still a crash
  1. Inserting the movie files from the other of either of these two directories:
  • resources/_common/movies
  • resources/en/campaign/movies
    doesn’t work - there is still a crash
  1. NB: There are no error messages - only crash to desktop.
