Visual trajectory errors in ground-based catapult units' projectiles

In Return of Rome, ground-based catapult units occasionally exhibited inconsistent projectile trajectories when targeting moving enemies. Although impact calculations were accurate—reflected in both health bar reductions and terrain effects—the visual arc (projectile trail) was sometimes misaligned, resulting in misleading graphics and momentary confusion. In certain cases, the trail rendered well before or beyond the actual impact zone, often without the siege projectile itself, creating a visual disconnect between the trajectory and the point of impact. This issue occurred intermittently and was only observable against mobile targets.

Affected units: Stone Thrower, Catapult, Heavy Catapult, Big Bertha
Unaffected units: Catapult trireme, Flying Dutchman

Projectile trajectory graphics should consistently reflect the actual impact zone and remain visually synchronized with both the projectile and its direction of travel, avoiding misleading arcs or disjointed trails.

Hi @SlenderBadger98 I wasn’t able to reproduce this issue in Single Player nor Multiplayer. Are you using a non standard resolution or some mod that could be interfering with animations?

Thanks for trying! Here’s a savegame from build 160062 in which I, soon after, found the issue manifesting at least two times, before my catapults in the area were eventually destroyed by enemy cavalry (I’m using standard 1080p resolution and, for the moment, was having no mods active): BUGGEDCATAEFFECTS.aoe2rorspgame (764,7 KB)

Bombard Towers have been affected by this issue from the beginning
