:play_button: ISSUE EXPERIENCED

In the victors and vanquished dlc vortigern map the progress of recruiting saxons got slower, but they are booming faster. Now it is not possible to get “seed of their own destruction” achievment in hard because they betray you after 10 recruit. Not to mention the other achievment or just finishing the map on Hard feels impossible. One can assume that this change was intentional, but it was already really hard and there is no mention of this in any patch notes.
Also really hard to find guide to beat it since lot of youtuber finished this map before it was changed.

ornlu played one year ago and looked much easier:

calls saxons 6 times but only betrayed in 475:
443
447
452
455
460
462

DarkHearts also was able to do this in hard before:

:play_button: FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

  • 100% of the time / matches I play (ALWAYS)

:play_button: REPRODUCTION STEPS

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. start the map in Hard difficulty.
  2. call the saxons as soon as possible
  3. repeat until 10

:play_button: EXPECTED RESULT

There should be enough time to call the saxons 12 times on hard.

Adding up that the walls were transferred from Romano-British with extra Byzantine HP before they got changed to Romans, and the infantry got buff recently in an scenario where everybody attacks you with infantry.

There’s not enough time for the achievement unless you do the cheesy strategies of walling their buildings or stand-ground mangonel.

Having the same issue on build 153638 on Windows 10. The Saxons turn on me faster than every other playthrough of this mission I’ve seen, sometimes it’s nearly 10 years faster. The Saxon triggers appear to be broken, activating significantly earlier than intended. It’s rather frustrating as this makes the mission impossible to complete on Hard difficulty.

Here’s a rec where I got up to 11 and ~20% of the twelfth. After rewatching the rec, there’s no way I let the wonder idle for long enough to account for the disparity of the research/recruiting time; and even if I did, requiring perfect play for an achievement is not wise.

SP Replay v101.103.22566.0 @2025.09.08 020517.aoe2record (2.8 MB)

Also, while rewatching I noticed that each successive research of the recruitment takes a little bit longer than the last, I don’t know if this is intended behavior or not, but it could account for the missing time.
