We need official unique skins for each culture

I just wish devs simply commission this guy and add it officially and add it officially.

That the upcoming DLC won’t have Native American Villager skins is my only true disappointment after seeing the pictures. Now I hope for regional skins coming with an African DLC…

Would be a readability nightmare for some.

Devs already have unique villagers if you look at the trade cart drivers.

Devs need to give correct sails to south indians and south americans before anything else.

You can make it an option, but for SWGB with very different models it’s not much of an issue.

And by “very different”, some factions have various droids (a R2-D2-style robot for the rebels, for example), others an organic worker (wookies and gungans)…

For a start villagers are unarmed unless when attacking, little risk to mistake them for another unit.

Not average vils tho. Trade cart was a right step in the direction. Next move should be military units. I hate how I play European Swordsman as Koreans. Game already solved data issue that plagued for years.

The male villager is relatively ubiquitous (barechested) but the female villager has an european dress, she’d perfectly fit a bavarian Oktoberfest. Not an outfit you’d expect out of Europe.

That game does not have 50 civis tho.Just imagine south asian civis having different looking villagers based off the trade carts and kings,it will be a nightmare.

Normal villager is riding the european trade cart so we can assume the other driver models will be used for the male villagers.

Yeah, and the game would be massive. My laptop with roughly 25 gigs of storage left probably wouldn’t be able to run it anymore.

Have there been many complaints about the 9 (soon 10) different Monks?
I assume there would be 6 or 7 different Villager pairs.

They could add an option to deactivate regional skins, though.

Not exactly, the hairstyle is different.
vil-hair
Anyway, not sure whether they really had Villagers in mind when they added three regional Trade Carts in 2021.

There wouldn’t be massive differences between neighbouring civs. Villagers would still be regular inhabitants wearing civilian clothes, no civ would have weird robots.

it’s a lot more than that, because each job is its own graphic (files are in \steamapps\common\AoE2DE\resources_common\drs\graphics )

which comes with a unique animation for death, decay, idle, working, walking (and carrying for resource gathering tasks)

in total there are 59 different sprites per gender

I don’t think it would make a huge difference, unless I’m missing something, the villager sprites are just about 85 MB (this doesn’t include the portrait displayed in the selection screen, but I doubt it’s more than 1MB). so even adding 10 variants of villagers would increase the game size on disk by less than 1 GB.

I think both the size issue, and the readability issue could be resolved by making this an optional download like the ‘Enhanced Graphics Pack’

I know, but it was done already (for RoR (female)/Chronicles), so I assume it can be done again? They are given different clothing, hairstyles, skintones, and otherwise use the same animations, I assume that much of the sprite creation process will be automatised.

Your comparing a game with gungans and wookis along normal human units, robots are the least off looking thing.

Could be a downloadable DLC like the ultra graphics pack, so that if one doesn’t have disk space or just prefers similar units for readability, they don’t need to download it.

The D in DLC means downloadable, I think you mean “free”.

Could be paid tbh. What I mean is that you don’t have to download if you don’t want to.

Then you mean optional?

One thing I didn’t realise until recently is that most DLCs you have to download the assets for even if you don’t buy them. I didn’t buy the Alexander DLC but had to download the assets, presumably in case I play a multiplayer with Chronicles civs enabled and someone else uses one of them.
