What about these campaigns?

I love Age of Empires, and I think the addition of documentaries to the campaign mode was a great move. And while I enjoyed the story mode, why didn’t they take advantage of the great campaigns of the Middle Ages?

  1. The Reconquista: Christian and Arab kingdoms clash for 7 centuries on the Iberian peninsula. There is an unprecedented cultural exchange between West and East. Great characters and heroes, such as Abd al-Rahman or The Cid, important battles such as the battle of Guadalete, Covadonga, Navas de Tolosa or the siege of Malaga.

  2. The Crusades: Up to nine of them took place, leaving huge events in the “Holy Land”. Salahadin is an incredible character who deserves to be in the game as the commander of the sultanate of Egypt in his fight with the crusaders.

  3. The rise of the Ottoman Empire and the fall of Constantinople. I don’t even need to explain this one. I would expect it to be incorporated into the game soon.

Hopefully this will not just stay in our minds. And please, there is no need for campaigns to be played only on one of the two sides. I want to defend Constantinople from Murad II and conquer it with Mehmed II. And the same with the rest of the campaigns, on several occasions the Spanish kingdoms relied on the Muslims to defeat them.

Yes, I agree, I hope they put in more campaigns for the missing civs…

Yeah we want a new campaign too but please make it with AoE 2 style.

I think every civilization should have their own campaign, they should also add historic battles, like in Age 2.

Most likely, they are like the ones that are there, that is, they are from a long period of time (1050-1550)…

Yes, that is, 4 campaigns would have to be put in: Abbasids, Delhi, Ottomans and Malians

HRE and Chinese too…

The Chinese feature a lot in the Mongol campaign so I didn’t miss them too much…but a Ming campaign would be nice (1363-1592)…and then an Imperial campaign from Barbarossa to Charles V (1152-1525)…

Yes it is true. But the focus of the campaign was the Mongol civilization… Chinese deserves its own campaign too. For me the more campaigns the better, but unfortunately the focus of the developers for this game is on competitive multiplayer… coz all these campaigns that we are discussing, should have already come together with the base game.

This is indeed the case. Unfortunately, this game has a lot of potential. I miss more challenges, like the Ottoman and Malian ones, more game modes (it could be fun one where the only way to get troops is with gold for killing other troops), and so on. I expected a lot from this game and I see that in the end it is not going to meet our expectations.

Yes, there are many ideas and contents to insert, what is missing is the will of the studio responsible for the game to give more attention and affection to the singleplayer modes. Maybe if Age IV was in the hands of the Forgotten Empires studio, things could be different…

Would that be possible today?

I believe so, if Microsoft understands that the game is not in the direction it should be, it can and should change the editing studio. In my opinion Microsoft should do this now, they are killing the game! look at the next update they are releasing… huge amount of historical and serious content they should implement in the game, but instead we have wildmen and blue sea dragons to find on maps… they must listen to longtime fans and treat the game more seriously, bringing content that pleases all players, not just content for competitive multiplayer mode, and should leave the monsters only for the Age of Mythology.

Yeah… I don’t mind monsters, but I really feel the need for more single player content. I hope they listen to us one day.
