What are saracens even good at?

Simple question; why are Saracens so lame ? literally no eco bonus, supposed to be a naval civ, but only has a bonus on gallees which get counter easily anyway, transport ship bonus, what a useless bonus. Nothing is good about them really

Saracens go STONKS and camels

market bonus is an eco bonus. no idea about the naval aspect, i have not engaged with naval play since the rework. it was fairly strong before that (not top tier though)

They do have a good tech tree.

But they got hit hard by the market and Mameluke nerfs. They should remove the skirmisher bonus damage against Mamelukes.

Does anything prevent you from playing another civ ?

Saracens is my main civ and I like them. As an eco bonus, I usually build an early market (cost -100w) sell stone and enjoy maket prices. Still better eco than Magyars and Byzantines.

And Saracens are not lame. I find Persians (douche), tower rush specialists, FC UU civs, and boar stealing specialist civs way more lame than any lame strategy Saracens can bring to the table.

oh no of course, I was just curious since I got them on a random civ set up. And I found them very limited.

And by “lame”, I meant “bad”

No actually, If you assumed this was bait, your opinion interests me even more !

you wouldnt place them is the E tier bucket ?

If you’re referring 100% to Arabia, I’d classify them in low C Tier. Simply because the market has been nerfed (for everyone). But apart from that, they don’t have any bad match-ups, and the tech tree is wide.

These days, unless they die in the early feudal because of some overly aggressive civilisation (and the developers have included far too many of them in the game) on maps that are far too open, they have no trouble at all. They always manage to come up with a composition that causes their opponents problems.

Hussar + Arbalest? This combo is very good.

but they dont get any bonus for arbalest or hussar

You don’t really need a bonus for either one of them. FU Hussar+arbalests is just good in Arabia.

Wrong man, foot archer of sara en very good at some situation, other can not do. Try it on black forest, some game really fun. And tribute other civ can not do thư thing Saracen can do. Mameluke still feared with many unit.

Fastest firing galley ships and awesome transports with more unit carry capacity. They are the southern vikings in my opinion.
But instead of throwing axe berserkers they have mamelukes.

They have extra healing.
And their trebs are good.

So on water maps you can raid very well especially with those transports you can land an army inside an enemies base very well. In the original game i played way more maps like rivers, or maps with lakes or a sea. And people wouldn’t build a wall along the water. Then you could easily drop armies in their base.

And the archers that are good against buildings have always been famous and scary.

If I answer “Buckwheat pancake”, is it relevant ?

Saracens have a particularly dangerous feudal archer all-in. You build a market, sell 200 stone, and then mass-produce archers. That is their best opening in my opinion - if an opponent fails to stop it, then the archers will tear down buildings and outright win you the game. You pretty much always have to be ready for it if you’re up against Saracens. If the game goes longer, than Saracens are pretty flexible, with top-tier camels (and mamelukes), good cavalry, FU cav archers (which are overshadowed by mamelukes so you rarely see them), solid archers, FU champions, great siege, and great monks. Regeneration aura on the monks is pretty potent if used properly, and allows monks to “heal” while converting. Though while they have some naval bonuses to help out on water/hybrid maps, I don’t consider them a top naval civ.

The market bonus is also helpful for quickly rebalancing an economy, though you’ll still need to fix any eco imbalances for the long term. They’re not the easiest civ to play, but if you know what you’re doing, they’ll almost always have a great option to use.
