What do you think what new abilities every myth unit will have?

It’s already know that every myth unit has upgrades now and some active ability (except for the scouting ones I assume)
So what do you think those could be (beside from the obvious ones like minotaur and cyclops toss etc) ?

From the trailer we can see that the Nidhogg has the ability to spray fire in a line. The Jotun will probably be able to save his hulk smash for whatever building you want as opposed to wasting it on the first target and I bet instead of kicking dwarves now they can kick all human units.

You mean the mountain giant?
There are no Jötunn in AoM (besides some of the gods).

The Mountain Giant has been renamed Jotun.

oh wow that is so wrong

Jötunn/Jotun/Eotena are not the same as giants.
You don’t have to do much research to find that out. That’s literally Wikipedia level of knowledge.

Neat. From what little research I have done Jötunn aren’t necessarily giants, it’s more of a name to refer to several groups as.

Majority of mythic units were useless in the original game. it seems like devs want that Age of Mythology will be really mythological

As it should be.

Yes, most myth units are rather useless in the original game, they have too many downsides: for example some of them are either too slow or have a slow special attack, they cost favor so they are hard to mass and by virtue of the fact that favor is limited in the original game they suffer fierce competion from gods’ technologies (which cost favor aswell), furthermore they are fairly expensive in terms of resources and population cost; on top of that they generally have a rather slow training time and, more importantly, some of them don’t even have access to an upgrade.

Giving all of them an upgrade and, where possible, a special attack too is a step in the right direction in view of Retold.

You forgot the strongest buff, the pathing improvement. As generally large units, they were especially affected by the bad pathing

Sure, the pathing too, which now seems to be really similar to the pathing that we have in Starcraft.
That should be really good for big units, in theory.

In Norse mythology, the jotun (Old Norse jötunn or jǫtunn) were a race of giants with superhuman strength, described as the opposition to their cousins the gods, although they frequently mixed or even intermarried with them. His fortress residence is known as Utgard and is located in Jötunheim, one of the nine worlds in Norse cosmology, separated from Midgard, the world of men, by high mountains and dense forests. When they live in a world other than their own, they seem to prefer caves and dark places.

In Old Norse, they were called jǫtnar (sing. jǫtunn), trister (sing. risi), particularly bergrisar (‘mountain giants’), or þursar (sing. þurs), particularly hrímþursar (‘frost giants’ or of the frost’). Giantesses could also be called gýgjur (sing. gýgr) or íviðjur (sing. íviðja).

Jötunn (from Proto-Germanic *etunaz) probably derives from the Proto-Germanic root *etan, ‘to eat’, and would therefore have the meaning of ‘eating’ or ‘man-eater’. Following this same logic, þurs could come from the same Old English root þurst, or the German ‘Durst’, both meaning ‘thirst’ or also ‘bloodlust’. Risi is probably a cognate of Old English rīsan, ‘to raise’, and would also mean ‘dominant person’ (similar to German Riese, Dutch reus, and Swedish rese, all meaning ‘giant’).

To me, it seems fine…Jotun is literally “mountain giant” in Old Norse…

Translating Jötunn as giant is a common mistake but it’s a mistake.
Some Jötunn where big but most were not.
Also the source you quoted says that ice giants are also Jötunn so it makes it an even worse decision to just name one of many types of Jötunn just Jötunn.
You can worship the Jötuun Skadi to get access to the Jötunn Frost Giant.

Yes, maybe they can rename them “Mountain Jotun” and “Frost Jotun”…
