What if Rome at War becomes data Dlc like RoR?
The main idea is that we can get a game mod where we can play some late antique civs, but more in Aoe2 style.
It’s great that RoR covers all Aoe1 community and even gives a lot of love to Vietnamese players by introducing a new civ. But for me, Aoe1 is so outdated, even in Aoe2 engine. These buildings and units scaling, Rogan voice lines, no unique units and the whole game style is very hard to get used after Aoe2.
However, it would be very interesting to play some antique civs in a more Aoe2 civ design style like in Rome at War mod.
I bought RoR Dlc to support devs and to try Romans in Aoe2, but hardly ever going to play it’s Aoe1 part. I hope that someday we could see something like Rome at War as an official Dlc, with more Aoe2 design style. That one I would be really excited and play for hours. Just imagine civs like Scythians can be introduced, units like Briton war chariots, and much more cool stuff.
What do you think guys? Would you buy such Dlc?

I think this would be a good decision. I was hoping RoR would be more like Rome at War anyway, and it wasn’t.

Same for me! But I understand that RoR is more for Aoe1 community and that’s okay. We just need another Dlc that covers antique more in Aoe2 style.
I’d be fine with it, my only problem with it is that East Asia isn’t included in Rome at War.
I love the early East Asian civs.
There’s extremely little coverage of those periods in games.
Especially Japan, finding games about Japan before the Edo Period is nigh impossible.

To be fair: I have never played Rome at War, but i am pretty sure they wont do a Roman themed DLC again. It doesnt make much sense to do the same a bit different.
RoR wasnt also meant to be an AoE2 style update of AoE1. It was a AoE1 port into AoE2, so you still play the AoE1 civs, but with all QoL features. If i am informed well, AoE1 DE didnt had attack stances or unit formations. Also other AoE2 QoL were all missing and now added to AoE1. It wasnt meant to be an complete overhaul of all AoE1 civs.
At the least they should have reskinned the hero units, but they couldnt be bothered to even do that. Only Sargon has a new skin.
Not a fan, personally. I get that some people wanted RoR to be more like R@W, and I think its addition would have been more appropriate if that was the case.
But you’re asking for AoE2 to be saddled with yet another DLC/game mode that’s at odds with the original theme and offers nothing to OG fans who are mainly interested in the Medieval aspect…hard pass.
Besides, if you like R@W (and I’ve not played it, but by all accounts it’s impressive), you can already play it for free. If you’re interested in its continual expansion, you can probably donate to the creators. I don’t see what gets accomplished by making it “an official DLC.”
I’d love Rome at War to become an official mod with official support.
The main issue I see is a marketing one.
The fact that it also has Rome in the name is probably confusing. They would have to find a new name.
It kinda is a bridge between AoE1 and AoE2.
Same.
3 Kingdoms is such an interesting time period and it’s right between AoE1 and AoE2 time frame, perfect for Rome at War.
