When the Georgians had their early Food penalty removed in Update 107882, their winrate and rank skyrocketed. This is due to how their free Mule Cart and starting 200 Wood can let them build everything they need to reach Feudal Age with 19 Villagers without needing to chop any wood, allowing them to perform some very potent Scout rushes in optimized builds.
However, when the Georgians had that -50 Food penalty, their Villager production was troubled by needing to divert more Villagers onto herdables early on to avoid TC idle time. This made their Dark Age pretty rough, so I wouldn’t want them to go back to that.
That said, if the Georgians were to lose 50 Wood at the start, I think that’d be a good way to slow them down a bit. With only 150 starting Wood, you’d only be able to build 2 Houses and a Mill, and would need to collect Wood to get a third House. Their Villager production wouldn’t be disrupted by this change (at least, not by as much as -50 Food), but it’d make those optimized Scout rush builds less viable.
What do you think? Would this be a good way to nerf the Georgians, or do they not need a nerf right now?

I think that the current stats show to be balanced for georgians.
Let’s wait a few days for that to settle.

Yeah and if anything people just seem to complain about Monaspa, so we could nerfvthose onstead of the solid but not overwhelming start
Compared to old Lithuanians the start is nothing special

Oh Georgians have one of the best starts in the game rn.
Comparable with Mongols or Khmer.
But some civs have to get the best starts, that’s one way to differentiate them.
Is this also possible with Japanese? It seems like it should be, but they would need slightly more building time than Georgians, so maybe not.
Also, how is this so powerful, given that you still have to build a barracks and stable?
Georgians save on construction time, which is another big benefit to their free Mule Cart. Said cart can also be used to scout a bit early, even if it can’t collect herdables.
The part that makes it strong is that you don’t have to worry about wood collection at all until late Dark Age or until you’ve clicked up to Feudal, letting you focus entirely on food. Using the Mule Cart also means you don’t have to push deer under your TC; you could just take some Villagers and the cart and hunt them remotely, then re-task the cart onto wood afterward.
This then leads into Georgian Scouts, which are extra annoying to deal with thanks to their health regeneration. 5 HP per minute might sound modest, but in pro hands that’s exceptionally powerful against units that are only doing around 3 damage per hit to the Scouts. The only unit that can make the regen a non-factor is Spears, and forcing your opponent into too many Spearmen is a win in itself.
