What if they populated the ranked list with some AIs?

Botting is illegal anyway. My ELO in a player vs player should only come from fighting… get this: players

not the same thing if it’s limited and official

could just not change the players’ elo when a bot plays against them and this is still addressed by having the opt out

I guess i just want to understand the point of taking time away from other dev tasks to make pvp bots when you could run a single player skirmish for training

not making new bots, but using the existing AI. All you would need to do is make a small routine that queues 6 players each with one of the existing AI levels. this is something an intern can make in a week

pros:
-we know how strong the AI is in elo
-this will allow in the future to have new players play matches against the AI and give them a more accurate starting elo, removing the demoralizing losing streak many players encounter.
-the change of rating of the AI would indicate how quickly the community as a whole improves

cons:
-if you have the option to opt out from AI battles none other than:
-opportunity cost

the point is not to replace normal ranked matches with AI games, but just to have more knowledge. I guess there are around 20 000 players in the elo range of the AIs, these players wouldnt meet an AI more often than once every 100 games or so (depending on how frequently the AIs play)

This is the biggest pro, imo it over-rules all other points.
