Gamescon is basically the E3 of Europe. Its the biggest European video game conference held annually in Germany. Given its proximity to Christmas many game companies will be touting upcoming titles and promoting games that will be coming out for 2017 to increase visibilty/marketing.
As such games like AOE:DE that are slated to come out this year, are likely to be heavily promoted and marketed during this event. Thus you can expect to see some more details about the game and the devs showcasing it to the press and public.
