Is the game slowly going to deteriorate? Please tell me that this isn’t likely, because I’m worried about the game’s future. Victors and Vanquished didn’t perform very well at all, and since then, we’ve received no more information, not even balance patches.
Same pattern happened during AOE 3 DE release, months before the activity in AOE 2 DE updates was slowed to just a few small fix updates in 2020, after the 3 DE release a major 2 DE patch was released for the anniversary, so I assume after Retold releases a major patch will come out.
Another thing is that 2023 was very active in terms of balance changes so is expected this year won’t be as busy like the last one.
It’s a good thing that there haven’t been any DLC releases I actually want, since I’m basically broke and can’t afford luxuries. I’m not missing out on anything.
Edit: Afford, not avoid.
Same. (Twenty characters)
Some faux-pas, eh? It means you really want to buy the next DLC no matter what.
Well, that’s pretty much the case unless it’s another V&V, but I don’t exactly have the ability.
If Microsoft cuts AoE2 support for Victors and Vanquished that’s totally unfair.
Most people were asking for more civs in new content.
The 2/3 civs + 3 campaigns foruma worked.
Then they added Return of Rome for some reason.
Then they added Victors and Vanquished for some reason.
Something nobody asked for.
Do not blame some decision-making people’s at Microsoft inability to read the room that says with a big sign “WE WANT MORE CIVS” as a failure of the game.
Yes, RoR was a flop, and so was V&V, probably because they didn’t supply what was in demand: civilizations.
There is internal steam data that another (big) DLC is coming. As Mountain Royals is listed as DLC4 and V&V as DLC6. So likely they have been working on/planning something that takes longer than V&V.
Plus we have gone this long without a new DLC before, just normally they advertise a bit earlier…although they have no real consistency with that.
How can you see that?
Someone found it and screen-shotted it. I’m not sure where it is buried.
RoR & V&V be like:
Community: “I want hamburgers”
Company Decision Making expert: “They want hotdogs”
Community: “I want hamburgers”
Company Decision Making expert: “They want hotdogs”
Community: “I want hamburgers”
Company Decision Making expert: “Yeah, we should totally do hotdogs”
Makes hotdogs
Hotdogs have low sales
Company Decision Making expert: “Nobody wants food anymore, we should abbandon this whole project”
If you read the V&V Steam reviews and what was written here, you’ll see that the biggest complaint wasn’t that it didn’t have new civs. I even remember, way back ago, when a new campaign only DLC was announced, it was well received.
The biggest complaints were that the content was already available in the Mods Workshop and that the scenarios were buggy, not the lack of new civs.
One may or may not share that perception, but those were the comments and reviews
Well, yes that is true, but at least you’re guaranteed to get something that hasn’t been released as a mod yet when it comes to civs, (usually), while the campaign dlc was mostly just reused mods.
Then again, the Forgotten dlc was based on a mod, but it was official, so it could be used in ranked.
Any idea when was this? This is big news. It has been a famine of info on AOE2DE DLCs lately.
The devs did not give us any new resources at all in the editor or anything else.
It was not long after V&V came out that someone spotted it. Given what this info is, that makes sense that this mystery DLC 5 has been in the pipeline for a while.
Ok what the hell. I can type DLC4 and 6. But DLC 5 (without the space) gets asterisked…

LOL. I’m so going to spend the next hours trying to deduce what’s the offensive part of the acronym.

RoR wasnt a flop I think, got a ton of reviews
And second biggest is not having a full campaign.
