What’s steamdb aoe3de happen

Why?..anyway, it was just an idea…obviously the DE version would be more archaic since it would use the Danes from the post-Kalmar Union (1523-1814) with Christian IV as AI, while the WoL version uses the Danes from the Schleswig Wars (1848-1863) with Frederick VII as AI…

Oh, look, I’d forgotten about that… anyway, I would have liked it to be an official revolution…

Yes, I know…it was just a civ concept, I know that the WoL civs are from the 19th century…the other thing I have left is to add the Denmark of the DE Baltic mod:

Denmark-Norway Civ:

Starts with an Ox cart and gains one when you age up.

Can train cows but not sheep.

Mercenary units are more expensive

Royal guard units: Musketeer (Landsoldat) and Hussar (Zealand Life)

Unique units: Ox Cart (as in AoM), Kanonbåd (a boat with a cannon), Snaphane (a skirmisher), Ski Infantry (a musketeer with skis) and Rytter (basically a Danish Ruyter)…

Siegelad explained it way more succintly than I could ever do.

Wars of Liberty’s Denmark is:

a) A product of its time

b) Like that because of ugly workarounds

c) Most importantly, very specific to its context

Like, for example, stop and ask yourself this:

WHY does Denmark need Ox Carts?

What does it add to the civ? Do they need them for gameplay purposes? Are Ox Carts something intrinsically Danish?!?

I was there when the WoL danish civ was designed, you know. You wanna know why they have them?

It was a call back to Age of Mythology, except… in Age of Mythology they serve as drop off sites, which Age of Empires 3 doesn’t need those kinds of buildings. So, Ox Carts are kinda… just there, not really accomplishing much of anything nor really providing any real insights into danish life; they aren’t immersive and they don’t really have much of a gameplay purpose, they are a reference to norsemen out of all things, completely out of place.

I keep telling people this. Don’t cargo cult the stupid decisions I took 10+ years ago, at least do me the favor of understanding why we took this or that decision and realize whether they still make sense.

Hell, I’m still around, you guys might as well ASK.

People: “Hmmm, why is this thing in WoL?”

HoopThrower: “You can just ask me.”

People: “It’s a complete mystery. The developers disappeared many moons ago”

HoopThrower: “There’s one literally right here. It’s me.”

People: “The origins shall forever remain an enigma.”

HoopThrower: :expressionless_face:

I was there, when hoop said danes use ox carts to this very day and aoe3 should definetly use a gather point mechanic, then he said only ask him about his cult.

:robot:

Besides given Tilanus worked on the Napoleonic Era pre DE mod I’d expect if he was going to be inspired by any mod, it would maybe be his own mod imho.

This is the case with every other archaic unit in the game but they never got replaced for any civs until the convoluted changes of DE. Advancements were additive and the archaic units were disincentivized by lacking later upgrades instead of being removed. But now neither are true as many archaic units have imperial upgrades and many are randomly replaced and have opaque cards that change functions.

Adding Rangers was definitely an improvement on the original British lacking a rifle unit entirely. But the replacement is extremely inconsistent with the rest of the game and not at all necessary. Just make them locked until age 4 to reflect the late adoption and make fully upgrading both require more cards than is practical so players still have to choose in the late game.

I agree, especially with the term ‘convoluted’, which sums a lot of the changes up. Don’t get me wrong, I love new content and units, especially those that give some historical depth, though I’m not a fan how broad and convoluted some content is utilised.

(the Polish obuch from AoE 2 continued to exist until the 18th century, so it could easily be in AoE 3 as a Polish halberdier)…

First of all this is “Nadziak”
Second of all it was never this big, it was literally size of one-handed sword
Third of all it was mostly used by Szlachta and by cavalry

Yes, exactly…it’s simply a callback to Age of Mythology…the Ox Carts in World of Light serve to boost the gathering of nearby settlers…

Yes, that’s true…

Ah, that’s good to know… well then, I’ll discard that idea…

What the hell is World of Light

This is what I had from the age support team, it doesn’t confirm anything clearly but is it normal they acknowledge steamdb and community discussion?

Why not point me to the Jan 2025 post about the cancellation? Why point me to the forum and discord if we aren’t onto something?

Just seems abit too much of a coincidence for the steam db to update the aoe 3 app and link it to a new unknown app that has 3 packages now.

It’s very much like the AOM dlcs in terms of a pattern on steam db. But of course feel free to have your own opinion but please don’t all get nasty,

Thank you for contacting Age of Empires Support!

Thank you for reaching out and for sharing your thoughts so clearly. I completely understand why today’s announcement, combined with community discussion and third-party sources like SteamDB, would lead to questions about the future of Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition.

As Player Support, we don’t have access to unreleased plans or the ability to confirm development status such as whether a title is in “maintenance mode” or whether additional content is planned. Those kinds of decisions and announcements come directly from the development and publishing teams, and they’re only shared publicly when they’re ready.

That being the case I would like to direct you to our other community resources where you will be able to receive an answer to your current inquiry.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,
Age of Empires Support

The game feels less cancelled than it did when they cancelled it.

I’m not entirely sure what that means. Personally, I still think a farewell patch is most likely, but getting Poland/Denmark and a few patches over a year or two would be epic.

Yes, it would be an unexpected resurrection like No Man’s Sky… the devs released the broken game in 2016, it went silent for a year, and then patches and DLCs slowly started to arrive. Five years later it was a different game with Expeditions, and now, ten years later, it’s a masterpiece and feels like a sequel within the game… the same thing happened with Fo76 with Wastelanders in 2020 and CP2077 with Phantom Liberty in 2023…

I still think the most sustainable is yearly patching. This is perfectly suitable for the maturity of the game. Aside from fringe late 1890s civs, the time period is covered pretty well. It will also not alienate the community and help the franchise long term when it comes to customer loyalty.

AOE3 is far more different than No Man’s Sky. Because they have their best love AOE2/4/AOM, no need to work on AOE3.

Yes, basically the AoE 3 devs went on to AoM and 4, and since they’ll be there for several years, well, there won’t be any more content for AoE 3, and it will remain the last thing we had with KotM (although there’s always the possibility that they’ll relaunch the game in 2030 with a super DE remaster for the 25th anniversary, although it’s more likely that they’ll port AoE 3 to 2 or Retold for that anniversary (like what happened with AoE 1 with Return of Rome in 2022) or directly release AoE 5 that year set in the colonial era)…

Exactly, things on SteamDB are speaking out!

Friend,I still think there are many civs and revs can be added in this game.

civs such as:Persian,Myanmar,Mapuche,etc

revs such as:Tatars,Oman,Afghanistan,Serbia,Chechnya,and many others

So I think there’s a lot of works they need to do.

Exactly, they left the game incomplete and very bugged

@AnyDiagram93675 I would like to apologize for doubting you. Good work on monitoring SteamDB when the rest of us had given up.
