What’s steamdb aoe3de happen

Are we sure some shadow updates aren’t coming into effect? I’m noticing Russia’s eco skyrocket in the past few days in team games.

I also noticed some other small things but of course it could all just be in my head.

I’d imagine you’d want to check gather rate numbers and maybe time a batch of vills if you think this is happening.

My inclination would be they wouldn’t make any changes without saying something because it wouldn’t buy them any good will, but idk.

Did they “stream“ updates without notifying anything in Steam before, so it is totally possible. But they can only change numbers with this. And I doubt there would be any changes in SteamDB for this.
However this would be very difficult for other installations of the game, like windows store, which does not support this kind of changes - clients would be out of sync. So we would see some coordinated effort if that’s the case.

Oh for sure, but I’ve also noticed that the matchmaking system is making weird decisions - getting placed against people far less ranked than me in team games. Like the logic was broken or modified. These are the “little things” I was referring to that could well be in my head but still strange nonetheless.

So are you basically saying that they are updating the game without telling us?

Maybe yes and they dropped a Server-Side balance patch under the hood

Who knows?

Just a theory with limited reliability lol.

Which is that they’re making changes and not realizing it’s affecting the live environment rather than a sandbox one.

This seems plausible as it bypasses certain logical reasons why there wouldn’t be any unannounced changes.

Idk how likely it is from a coding perspective though.

Speculations aside, a lack of players in the queue seems most likely?

That’s likely due to there being less players so more people hit the 7 minute mark where the game will find literally anyone to pair with- in teams this effect will be more pronounced ie balancing 6 people across the Elos becomes less possible so the game just yolo’s people including people in queue for under 7 minutes.

I still think they will not give anything to us.

But if you don’t go past 7 minutes yourself then you can’t be matched with someone or a team that did go past 7 minutes, that’s my understanding. It wouldn’t make any sense otherwise.

You’d think but no, you can get paired with people out your elo range if they went over 7 minutes - it tends to look for others also over 7 minutes but if not it takes whoever. I’ve gotten paried with 1k elo teams in less than 30second of queue.
I assume as player counts dwindle this will happen more often, especially non peak hours at mid to upper elo.

The same way I got paired against JulianK once, my ~1450ish elo wasn’t in the search for super long, but I was probably the best searching at that moment.

I won that one btw. He tried a basically naked semi-FF with Ethiopia and I hit him with a bunch of Maltese Bow/Pike before he made it up. I think I went extra heavy on the pikes because I knew I pretty much had to just YOLO everything I could at him and hope for a dead TC.

Not sure, he might have been less familiar with Ethiopia, or he made the mistake of underestimating a name he didn’t recognize. Also I think he could have misread my deck a bit. At that time my 1v1 decks were a bit upgraded heavy, which implies an eco game.

I think I got an “lol” along with the gg, which was deserved. There’s no way I should have won that.

They changed in steamdb half an hour ago,I really want to know what they want to do in their “shadow update”.

I’m hoping for something in the ballpark of this. Obviously I don’t expect them to just take all my/other people’s suggestions, but hopefully some, and something to balance things out would probably be best for the game if we don’t have new content coming.

We can focus it before Christmas,we all know what the Christmas mean,so if they will not give us something before or in Christmas, that means they will never give us anything, even a balance patch.

Sorry, but World’s Edge aren’t holly jolly Santa - they don’t give a rat’s proverbials whether it’s Christmas or any other event unless they can shoehorn AOEIV in.

I’d not hold your breath on this - I’d love to be pleasantly suprised on a patch (not a grandiose update on artillery that’s for sure), but I’m a glass half-full guy until something materialises.

If something is indeed cooking, I would look to on a potential AoE event like one that happened last year.

My leaning would be it probably lands after Christmas in January or February, depending on the amount of people working on it (which I suspect might be fairly few), if indeed we are to get a patch at all. And I further suspect it would be a fairly small patch with bug fixes and balance issues being the primary things likely to be addressed.

I think the community backlash would be lessened if they actually fix the game and the balance and leave it in a more stable place before stepping away fully, and that frankly might be their only goal.

A full reversal leading to more new content seems highly unlikely, but I’d be pleasantly surprised if they even moved to a yearly patch model after one last DLC.

But I think if after Christmas they still can’t give us even a balance patch, there will be nothing in the future.

Just because they don’t care about our anger.lol.

It’s fair to question whether we’re getting any more updates, but idk why the timeline would be significantly in determining whether an update will happen.

If we consider what a normal development team’s calendar would look like, you’ll probably see them off for the last 1-2 weeks of the year (ie Holidays off and possibly using up some time off they had for 2025 that can’t be rolled over). We should expect a development gap in late December/the first couple days of January. If updates stop on Steamdb during that time that should be totally normal.

If they stop outside of that time, and we see/hear nothing for like a month, then that’d start looking like maybe this was nothing.

Right now, I’d assume it’s a fairly small team working on this, and bug fixes aren’t exactly easy, so I wouldn’t expect fast movement. It wouldn’t shock me if we continue to see movement for another month or so after a Christmas break before we hear anything.

Or of course this is all just backend server stuff and nothing interesting is actually going on in which case we’ll hear nothing.
