I’m sure I’m not the only one wondering this? What does the future hold for Retold from this point forward? I know that nobody has an exact idea of what might happen, but what do you think will happen? What makes you say that?
I also know we’ll get two camps: the game is dead, or the game is very much alive.
I’ve noticed that the community events have gone quiet. And it seemed to line up well with the latest expansion released. Is that a nice and neat ending to the game? Did they choose Aztecs because they knew it would be a wildly popular wishlist item and wanted to go out giving fans a bang? Are they just luring in more players with a highly popular civ choice to get them hooked for future instalments?
I’m fairly certain, whatever else comes, that we will get one more major patch update soon that fixes the launch bugs with Aztecs that are still not adressed.
There are a few possibilites
- The community events are just not that popular so they decided to try something else, but that isn’t ready yet. They will also keep making new DLC.
- They decided to move the team back to AoE3DE to port back the AoMR engine improvements to make new DLC for that game instead.
- They moved the team to AoE5.
- They are going to fire everyone so they can throw more money at AI.
I would be fine with options 1-3, as long as AoE5 is better the AoE4.

If the money or at least the reception of these last 3 DLC’s is favorable enough I think we’ll get one more pantheon but maybe in a little while. If not, I hope God packs still get produced. Egypt has LOADS more deities to work with. Atlanteans could lean more into Roman deities and have the storyline say they influenced what would be Rome or were influenced by strangers (stand-ins for Etruscans)
Honestly, Robbylava really piqued my interest in the Aztec god of ice (yeah they had one) so if we ever get a fourth minor god down the line for Aztecs he could be a minor god there.

Leave Romans alone. You’re spreading the miscunception that the Atlanteans look roman, which isnt true at all. I don’t get why you people still believe this nonsense.

Hopefully yes
Waiting years for it
Then they could release another Pantheon DLC for AoM.
I think 3 most popular are Hindu, Mesopotamian and Celt

I think community events will return later. And for the future, I’m counting on a new expansion pass in the 2nd half of the year, with 4th gods to egyptians and atlanteans, a new cosmetic pack and a new pantheon. I really think the game is pretty alive and well right now. In fact, I will buy any content they release for AOM (and AOEIII if they resume development someday) as I really like the released DLC’s so far

I think the Incas will come next, right?..that was the hint given by the cover of the Aztec expansion…
I think we have a 4th aztec major god coming, as the 3 minor gods represent the north, east, and south if i remember correctly, yet the god of the west, Xipe Totec, wasn’t even added as a minor god. Maybe the devs just overlooked him or maybe they’re planning to bring him in a god pack with more aztec minor deities.

If they’re doing an aoe5 I hope it’s a return to the aoe1 timeframe. 4 is fantastic, but I’d love something that takes the same philosophy 4 did towards 2 and takes it towards 1 instead.

What was the hint? There was the assumption that the man in the centre was a Sapa Inca, but he turned out to be Popocatepetl.
Or maybe the South American animals are a hint…
It was never a hint, it was a misunderstanding from the community

How does he not look inca to you? The halberd especially is a pretty obvious giveaway. Either it’s a hint or the devs did a very poor job at designing the character.
It is pretty strange because he doesn’t even use the halberd in the campaign.
So is it a hint or not? Why make a character look Inca but then have him not be an Inca in the campaign?
As I said, this may be just poor design, but I always assumed it was a hint and also a subtle way to “ask” players whether they’d like to see an incan pantheon next, which in my opinion, would be a pretty clever move.
Say what you want, but the character in game is confirmed not to be Incan.
I never said he was inca. Read again. I only said that he looks inca by design.
Or you are reading too much into it because you really want it to be a hint.

Not sure. I think for game development reasons they always stat working on the next DLC before releasing the current one so it’s very unlikely that they would still vibe check if people want Inca.
I also said this could be poor design on the devs part. Also, you don’t seem able to distinguish aztecs froms incas. Perhaps you should look up to this issue before arguing.
Now you are putting words in mouth, I never commented on whether the clothes and weapons looked Inca or not. Just that the character lore in-game is not intended to have any link with be Inca at all.
