I’m not saying camels are useless or anything. That would be very wrong. I actually like camels a lot. However, I’m confused as to when they’re actually preferred over pikes, as pikes are cheaper, easier to mass, and have a higher attack bonus.
Camels have the advantage of not requiring an upgrade and mobility however they are a softer counter than Pikemen, if you are already going for stable units you should make Camels. You should use their mobility to force engagements if you play defensively then you are giving your opponent time to find an answer to your camels.
Pikemen have the advantage of being more cost effective, mass-able before castle age, and being created from barracks (a building you are already required to make). Pikemen should be used in more defensive situation like Eco defense, or protecting your archers or siege.
If you are already going cav and have some upgrades, camel allows you to avoid an expensive transition to infantry
They also are more mobile and faster than kniths so better in that regard, and can also be annoying and raid while their countering job is finished
