When it comes to military what are your funnest and least fun civ for you personally?

My biggest problem with the chinese is that although they make units in combos (banner armies), the upgrades are individual, and due to I not remembering what each unit counters by name alone when looking at the upgrades, I can’t chose which units I need to upgrade first quickly.
This in a army with multiple banner armies gets annoying

If we are talking most fun in terms of military.

Its the Dutch! Lots of variety.

You can make a whole lot of infantry. Have access to very cool Heavy cavalry even if they are unlocked by certain cards. Lots of mercs to choose from!

Least fun its…Probably the British. They have a very generic playstule. Musketeers and Rangers. They have to remove access to longbows for the rangers. Prefer it if they had a bigger unit roster. But they are just so meh.

Depends a bit on the mood, but currently my favorite is russia…

Reformer czar gives so much flexibility and you can easily counter your enemies on the fly

Your cards allow you to buff individual units a lot and gives a lot replayability. Want to play cav? Skirms? Musks? Grens? No problem… there are fun cards for everyone

I think in the last 20 games i found a situation for every unit at least once… so from my pov there is not much redundancy/useless units

Instant unit production also helps you to hold a 2v1 for quite some time and you can buy your teammates a lot of time

My least favorite at the moment is italy…

Definetively because im too bad at playing them ^^
Im stuck to a few strats (mostly papal units or skirms), im super slow and i cant adapt to my enemies strats.

Contenders for most fun are mexico, germany, china

Haudenosaunee are now the civ I have been having the least fun playing. If I am not playing on a map with good natives they just don’t feel that fun.

If they had some changes like that it would help make me like them more.

Positives: Can make more natives that are cheaper and stronger with cards.

Negatives: Can’t use map specific Outlaws. Worst in the late game economy with gathering from their buildings and their Tomahawks and Kanya Horseman costing Wood. Not single unit that I really like a lot.

I really like their cheaper Food costing Royal Guard Grenadiers.

That was a fun game to watch. Russia has always been a fun civ to play for me just never the funnest but its up there.

More recently I have been having fun playing Malta on a custom map in comp stomps that I have been hosting that has good Outlaws that can be trained and reduced to 1 pop with Theaters card. That map has lots of Gold mines, Elephants and trees scattered around with some really nice treasures and I have used Outlaw builds before and now mostly a Pike and Shot build with Malta on the map.

Haudenosaunee need a good map for them and that same custom map has made them funner for me then before because with all those Elephants they can really take advantage of the North America Trade card generation of Coin while gathering from hunts. Still Haudenosaunee are on the low end at best for me when it comes to fun with the civ.

Most interesting:
Chinese: Maybe it’s just because I’m Chinese, so I’m closer to my own culture. And there are many types of Chinese units.
Least interesting:
Probably Germans: Because the choice of German special units in the game design makes it difficult for me to connect with my imagination of modern Germans.

Most fun: Easily Aztec, something about beating people down with a Bronze age civ feels so funny and rewarding. I really love how the fights are very “brute force” and snowballing off of hard counters and good trades instead of using mini-games/gimmicks(well ofc you got the community plaza and the stealth bs lmao)

Least fun: Probably sweden, the initial idea they had where you kind of build your roster from mercenary unit shipments sounds so much more cool but there’s no reason to do that because caroleans just fight everything. Combined with a pike that becomes spammable and can brainlessly run around the map torching everything, and a weird dragoon that feels insanely OP and out of place, and having a random xbow that can’t be upgraded, it just sort of feels like an uninteresting mess.

Most fun: Ethiopeans. I love how Gascenyas are basically glascannon musks that cost wood instead of coin and how you heal up your army in combat with your Abuns.

Least fun: Easily Ottomans.

Most fun: Japanese. There’s something very satisfying about the unit roster of that civ. Maybe it’s because every units just overperforms at their role.

Least fun: Haudenosaunee. Half the units feel useless, the available units are super limited to begin with and it really feels like a struggle to find a comp that works.

I have been enjoying Germans more lately thanks to African Jungle a custom map I have been hosting for Comp Stomps with lots of Elephants and Gold mines scattered around and they are much more enjoyable then the old version of the game with there being solid Outlaws for early on can use and then later going Mercenaries from Mercenary Camps from the Age III card.

Mexico! Funniest military to play with: Soldados and Bandidos are an hybrid between powerful Infantry and Artillery. Charro charges against enemies like the Winged Hussars. Just the Vigilantes are not particularely unique, but still they are strong.

I think each civ has their fun factor well defined. Even if you don’t like, say, play without artillery, still can find fun in Aztecs and Lakota, for example.

Civs are unfairly treated in favour of western style ones. It is ridicoulous how far it goes. They have better economy, diversity of strategies, units roster, native shipments, technologies…and so on
