Controversial opinion but I want Poseidon as their 4th major god.

It always bothered me that the Atlanteans just over the span of less then 10 years changed from Greeks to an entirely different civilisation when they stopped worshipping Poseidon. Having a version of Poseidon that is Atlantean would fix this logic problem.

Well in game lore they stopped worshipping Poseidon because they put all their faith and trust in him only for him to use them and see their homeland destroyed so…if anything, wouldn’t make sense for them to trust or worship him again.

Okay, even though I made the poll, I didn’t actually consider my vote until I published it; and I actually don’t know what I’d want. I guess it means I’d literally be happy with anything :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: I was trying to base my choice on who would go well/ complement each other well. If you go down that rabbit hole, there are so many potentials.

Underworld: Tartarus or Erebus as a major, then dark themed minor gods such as Nyx and Meneotius.

Night themed: Nyx as major, with Selene, Eos and Astraeus or Crius.

I think it would be easiest to vote just picking who I thought was cool, and not worry about theming/ alignment. I’ll have to think. The only ones I’d avoid would be Titans that are too similar to ones we already have, such as Aether being too close to Oranos.

The new major god is supposed to represent them in the past not in the future.

It could be used to replace the enemies in the last 2 campaign missions, so you fight against Atlanteans and not Greeks. I get why changing the beginning of the campaign is not really possible, it’s the introduction so playing a different civ for 2-3 missions would be very confusing.

Major God : Nyx

Minor Gods : Nemesis, Selene and Thanatos

Yes, perhaps in the FotT campaign it could be a custom civilization like Poseidon (campaign), just as in AoE 3 in the Steel campaign you have the United States (campaign), which would be Poseidon civ but can create Poseidon units and Atlantean units from Kronos too (after all, Poseidon is the son of Kronos)…

I would like to see Pontus as a major god. He feels like an obvious omission, being the other titan Gaia birthed without a partner.

:person_facepalming: I knew I forgot some. Yes he was mentioned a few times as a potential. He’d made a good choice as a major god, yes.

Actually, based on your suggestion: Pontus, Selene, Tethys and Themis would be another solid offering.

and what if Nyx is the major god and Pontus/Pontos the mythic age god? but then i wouldn’t take Tethys. either Tethys or Pontus cause of the same element they are representing. I personally just would have taken Tethys cause her name was/is more recognisable for me than Pontus was/is.

Pontus is not a very well known God, specially to sell and independent DLC for the game. Nyx would be the perfect choice, as she is very well known in mythology pop culture

I’d go for Pontos, for several reasons, for the DLC.

I also think an Atlantean Poseidon version that’s simply Greek Poseidon but with Atlantean human units and buildings, perhaps a new Fortress/Palace unit should exist, but be limited to the Fall of the Trident Campaign, the Editor, and the custom scenarios created there.
Would also mean Poseidon Myth-Unit variants that speak Atlantean rather than Greek.

Nyx, Khaos and Typhon are cool as well, which is why I’d have them as minor gods for Pontos.

Well, they did add the ability to properly add new Major Gods via additive modding, as well as new cultures (previously Hard-Coded) in today’s patch, so adding a fourth one should now be relatively easy. As for who the fourth one should be, either Nyx, Tartarus, Thanatos (god of peaceful death) or Erebus, I’m honestly not sure.

OR you could just go with Typhon as the Major God (and new Titan unit)

As for those saying it should be Poseidon, no, just no, for one thing, he’s dead post FOTT (it’s implied he is, anyway) plus he betrayed the Atlanteans, so wouldn’t make sense for them to start worshipping him again.

A Poseidon Version would be strictly for the FotT campaign, and editor, to solve the continuity error carried over by the original game that had a meta explanation in the original game, but doesn’t in Retold. I agree that they stopped worshipping him, and wouldn’t worship him again. But when they were worshipping him, it makes no sense for them to have entirely different architecture, language, craftsmenship etc than after. There’s only ten years between that. Not nearly enough to come up with an entire different cultural, linguistic and technological identity from literally nothing.
In the original game, Atlantean came with an Expansion, and when they were making the main game, they didn’t know they were going to do Atlanteans later.
So when they added Atlanteans as their own culture, they made a retcon on how Atlanteans look and sound. And when making retold, that hasn’t been adressed. At all. So it’s a continuity error. Atlantis without Atlanteans.
The Poseidon Version would be to fix that. Not to continue the story.

They could modify the original Campaign with Atlantean architecture but with Poseidon statues through triggers, but they are probably too conservative to change the original Scenario Design

They could. And they should. And use atlantean human units too, as much as possible.
Sadly, they won’t. Unless there’s an overwealming demand for it from the community. It wouldn’t change the story. It would actually fix the continuity and consistency.
But it would alter the experience in FotT in a very noticeable way, and that would go against what they said about “making the game we remember” and that’s why they won’t even consider that, as long as they have any kind of choice.

Iapetus was the dad of several minor gods already in the game. He could have Epimetheus as a minor god.

This is fantastic and should be what happens.

I don’t think this should happen at all. Here’s how i see things: After the olympians won the titanomachy the atlanteans started worshipping the new gods. That’s why in FotT the atlanteans are greeks. Poseidon wasn’t happy with the new order of things and with the help of Cronos he wanted to gain more influence. He betrayed the olympians and wanted to start a new era using a greek-atlantean cult. Greek as long as he’s in charge and then turn atlantean then the tittans are free. This way the story missions at the end of the campaign still hold up to this day. After FotT the atlanteans having lost their home and faith in the olympians returned to there old culture. It wouldn’t be right for them to still worship Poseidon after his betrayal and destruction of their homeland.

I also believe that every pantheon should be unique with their own independent major gods. There are still enough interesting primordials and titans i would much rather explore then a second version of someone we already have.

This is the part that I wonder about. Is this cannon? It would make sense. But it’s never explained.

Officially they are Greek and 10 years later they have their own culture. I think making a hybrid civ would make sense to explain the transition. Them still having their Atlantean architecture but Greek gods and partially Greek units.

Could be a potential civ for a prequel DLC where Arkantos is still a child.
