Who has the best militia line in your opinion?

So after the introduction of Gambesons and the tweaks of the last big patch, in your opinion which civ has the best militia line, and why?

  • Dravidians
  • Goths
  • Japanese
  • Malay
  • Malians
  • Sicilians
  • Slavs
  • Teutons
  • Vikings

Before the last big patch I’d have said Malians, but now I think Vikings have the best because they have high HP, 6 pierce armor, they can gather gold from killing villagers and they are even capable of dealing with cavalry.
This obviously doesn’t mean you could go all-in with militia with Vikings, or any civ really.

Persians.

It depends on the situation, for example the Malay one is quite bad, until you run out of gold which makes it the king.

It depends on the army compositions. I voted Vikings because FU champs are very versatile: Higher HP, higher attack vs cavalry and keshik ability vs certain units. Same thought than the OP.

It also depends on how many ranged threats are around.

Yep totally. Also due to vikings eco its easier to get to FU champs army.

I went with Japanese and Malians. Japanese, because faster attacking makes them win almost all the time, and Malians, because the extra pierce armor really helps against archers, their biggest weakness.

Bulgarians. Free unit upgrades overcomes the Swordsman’s line biggest weaknesses of a long upgrade time that is also food heavy. Their cheaper and faster Blacksmith techs also helps to overcome these deficiencies, making Bulgarian Swordsman a solid all-around unit at any age. And Bagains amounts to a cheaper and faster “Champion” upgrade.

Bulgarians was a runner-up, but I found Japanese and Malians to be slightly better.

Depends on age:

Dark Age: Goth
Feudal Age: Malians
Castle Age: Malians
Imperial Age: Malians
In the long run: Malay/Portuguese
