I’m seriously wondering why Amazon Tunnel and Michi have been completely left out of the map votes for over 5 rotations now. These are some of the most fun maps for me and majority of my friends.
I understand that players who prefer to rush and end the game asap don’t like these maps, but it would be fair to add them to the voting pool every once in a while. I assume many players like them because whenever they are on the list, they always get most of the votes.
Exactly. It’s just a war of brute force, with the stronger army usually being the winner. Even Arena isn’t like this (1v1 black forest is pretty awful, though).
I completely agree with you, Heichou! Amazon Tunnel and Michi are such unique and strategic maps, and it’s a shame they’ve been left out of the voting rotation for so long. I think it’s important to cater to all playstyles, not just rushers who want quick games. These maps add a different layer of gameplay that many players, like yourself and your friends, really enjoy.
It’s only fair to give them a chance in the voting pool once in a while. I’ve noticed the same thing—whenever they are available, they tend to get a lot of votes, showing how popular they actually are. Let’s hope we see them make a return soon!
I think it’s interesting how different players have different preferences when it comes to maps. Sometimes, when a map requires a strategy outside of someone’s usual playstyle, it can be easy to label it as “garbage.” But the beauty of Age of Empires II is in its variety of strategies and approaches. Some maps push players to think differently, whether it’s building up defenses or focusing on resource management for the long game, and that’s what makes the game so dynamic for a broad range of players. Not every map is about quick, aggressive tactics—some require patience and a different set of skills to master!
Not sure if that’s the case, I remember dodging michi a couple of rotations ago. Anyways you can still play them through custom lobbies. You’ll find many unranked players interested in joining you guys. As far as ranked goes these are terrible one-dimensional and uncompetitive maps. Its really great that the map pool has a good mix of open, closed and nomadic maps instead of these two. I’m also not against having one of these maps in ranked if we can get additional bans.
Is not about rush and quick games. Is about how many moves you can make through the match.
Open maps is about little “rounds” of battles here and there.
Those maps OP mention reduce drastically those moves and dynamism thst makes this game so enjoyable.
I think there need to be separate map pools for different elos. As michi and amazon tunnel are mostly preferred by below 800 elo players and those above 1200 elo generally hate those maps
Michi is the most stupid map that I will dodge it every time when wonder win is not enabled. Walling behind tree is absolutely cancer.
The map is not encouraging competitive gameplay.
The problem is not rush or boom, it is you can’t get into battle until late imperial age. The onager cost 1795 resources ( 200w for workshop, 295 for onager, 1300 for tech ) which means you need big lead in economy in order to launch a proper attack.
What can you get from attacking ? nothing, there isn’t any gold ,stone or relic in middle. As a result, attacking the opponents will waste your time on breaking trees, and waste resources on onager if you didn’t pick a siege civ.
The smart people stay defensive, pick Persian and Spanish , boom as much as they can. Nobody will attack first if everybody is smart so they sit there forever
