Why Are Crashes Treated Like Quits

I wanted to bring attention to an issue that feels outdated and unfair in the current state of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.

If your game crashes mid-match, you’re treated as if you quit voluntarily, with no way to reconnect. This not only affects your rating, but also punishes your teammates in team games and ruins the overall experience. Crashes happen. They can be caused by bugs, server problems, or just random technical issues. But the fact that you still can’t rejoin a game in 2025 is hard to understand, especially when most other multiplayer games offer this feature as standard.

What makes this even more frustrating is that the problem remains while we keep paying for new DLCs and content packs. The community clearly supports the game financially, yet a basic quality-of-life feature like reconnection is still missing.

It’s time for this to change.
We care about this game. We support it. But we should also expect a fair system in return. No one should be penalized for something beyond their control.

Please, developers, make crash recovery and rejoin functionality a priority. It would go a long way in showing respect for your player base.

Thanks for reading.

If it were treated differently, it would be trivial for someone to write and release a program to induce a crash in order to back out of games.

Ctrl-Alt-Del, kill the process, and done. Don’t need to write a single line of code.

Like others said if you leave the game you should get a loss as is now. to prevent dodging losses.
But I agree with you there should be a window of time (pause for 30-60 seconds) and an ability to reconnect to the ongoing game.
