Why are the trees not rendered? its just black

Some easy things to do first, but you probably alread done most of it.

  • Make sure you are not using any mods
  • Try restarting your computer and launch a new game to check if the problem is still here
  • Make you sure you are using your dedicated GPU and not the integrated one (I don’t remenber if all surface book have a dedicated GPU or just some model).
  • Check for upgrade (windows update, and for your dedicated GPU)
  • Verify the games files (by right clicking the game in your steam game collection, the local files and click "verify integrity of game files).

If there are still problem, you can uninstall aoe3 and deleting every games files. Then installing the game again. If the problem is still unresolved, you could think about reinstalling your computer after backing your personnal files.
