Why captured mortars cost 8 pop slots?

Since june update this unit cost the double pop slots without being different from european version. Only lakota can revert it to 4 by an industrial age card.

In my opinion this makes no sense because a) same stats as european ones b) only trainable in age 4 after a big button c) only from native embassies, a very limited building d) Native civs need to train units to keep the army cause no anti inf artillery, that high cost becomes them untrainable most times

I think the reason as for why it costs 8 population slots is because it is now classified as a “Outlaw” unit instead of a “Native Warrior”, which was stated in the June update post now that I take a look at it again.

If you are familiar with how Outlaws work, one thing that they have in common is that all of them occupy many population slots.

Thats a ridicoulous reason lol

Because it is the only unit that can safely attack buildings from a distance when playing as any of the Native American civilisations, I couldn’t agree more.

But if you play as the Aztecs you can still rely on Arrow Knights, Huaraca for the Inca and Light Cannons for the Haudenosaunee. If you happen to play as the Lakota you can at least send the “Territorial Claims” card which turns Cetan Bowmen into siege units that enables them to siege buildings from a long-range. Any of these aforementioned options will be less expensive population wise.

But if they needed mortars was for a reason, that units suck doing it as arent effective and any civ won the match easily by walling.

Now there is no reason to train 5 mortars when 20 AKs do a better (bad) job.

Natives had to wait until imperial to use them to favour the use of unique units for Supremacy purpouses.

I wouldn’t say that they are completely useless, but they should not be used as often as these other units that I have mentioned. Mortars are more of a specialised siege unit that will be very useful against [Forts] and players who has a turtle play style or play defensively.

And other than that they will be your best unit against Naval Vessels on water maps, especially against the [Monitor] and [Ironclad] who have access to the “Long-range Bombardment Attack” ability. But only if they are close enough within range. Otherwise use a combination of them and some war boats.

They were added for treaty, where there are bases with 6 layers of wall, plus others spread on the map.
What is the unbalanced point to nerf them??

Just like I said before I think that has to with because they are considered “Mercenaries” now and not regular units anymore. The [Native Embassy] which they are trained from is more or less the Native American counterpart to the European [Tavern] or American [Saloon]. And units trained from these types of buildings are either Outlaws or Mercenaries.

I don’t agree either that they should cost these many populations slots, unless they could attack other units just like with the Swedes after they had sent the [Barrage] card. Even If they are Outlaws now they should be an exception out all of the Outlaws that does not take take up a ludicrous amount of population space.

I know, this is also affecting Mexico revolutions since they have those mortar types.
