Why do the vikings have cannon ships?

So, the viking age went from the late 8th century to the early 11th century. They did not use gunpowder, and did not have knowledge of gunpowder. So, why do they have cannon galleons when there is a perfectly good Dromon available to them?

Imo vikings should have dromons instead of cannon galleons, or even no dromon and no cannon galleon. Or a very weak trebuchet on a ship that does pitiful damage, and is useless in naval battles. They are a top water civ, they can totally take the nerf to their navy.

Dromons are a mediterranean ship.Vikings represent all nordic people(denmark norway sweden finns) so them having canons is fine.

And they lived around which area within the game story line?

I do not care what they have, but they cannot be considered naval civ if they lack an anti-building ship outranging bracers castles (at least 12 range).

Well…umm…okay. You have a point there.

Exactly. So the vikings should have dromons  Just like the huns

Think about it this way. A lot of the civs were not really around in the late medieval period so them having access to the Imperial age is not realistic in that sense at all, and that includes all the things you get in imp, gunpowder, trebs, etc… so in those instances the Imperial Age is more of a “what could have been” had those civs survived until that late in the real world. If you look at it this way it’ll make digesting a lot of the more out there inaccuracies in the game a lot more manageable.

This is something many people are asking though.
There are many people in favour of an alternative to the Cannon Galley that doesn’t use gunpowder and is also not a regional unit like the Dromon.

Something like a trebuchet ship for the American, Asian, African and northern European civilisations that don’t have gunpowder units on land.
A unit that is similar to a none Elite Cannon Galley without the AoE effect of the Dromon.

The Kingdom of Denmark is ensconced under the Viking umbrella.

I would be ok with a trebuchet like ship that was only worth firing at buildings for the vikings.

Like Goths in AoK getting hand cannoneers because they represented Spain. Then, Spain got(h) added

I don’t like this logic in both cases.
Late Medieval Denmark is not really well represented by the Vikings at all and the Goths are way worse at representing Spain, especially since Spain has been in the game almost als long as the Goths have been.
So them having Hand Cannons (their only fully upgraded unit) and Bombard Cannons is just completely out of place.
They should get their tech tree or bonuses changed so other units can replace those.

My idea would be a ship that is very inefficient vs. other ships, having the same accuracy vs. units as Trebuchets, meaning they will miss most shots while having the same range as normal Cannon Galleons vs. Buildings.
The unit would a pure siege ship that is almost useless vs. other ships or land units.
