Why don't defensive buildings attack each other?

Had a game where I built a fort next to the enemy fort, and before I rallied troops to take it out, there was an awkward period that the two forts were idly doing nothing next to each other… I further tried placing two rival castles and outposts in the editor, and none seem to attack one another either.
Which begs the question, why don’t buildings fire at each other? Is there a reason I’m not taking into account?

I just find it extremely odd that this isn’t a standard game feature for all defensive buildings. A fort can bombard a galleon or any ship, which is basically a floating building, but not another castle or fort within its vicinity? Where’s the logic in this?

It also kinda undermines the role of defensive buildings. If I want to control a territory with an outpost or fort, but an opponent can place their own fort nearby by using a wagon that leaves the map when constructing (so it can’t get shot and killed), then they can cheese through my defenses if no troops are around, because the fort under construction can’t be attacked. I know all this is rather a niche situation, but it doesn’t mean buildings shouldn’t be able to attack each other.

It’s mainly do to Age of empires 2 tower/town center rush cheeseing that AoE 3 didnt want to be a part of( or at least not be so popular) so they made a lot of anti tower/buildings cheese mechanics. This includes buildings not being able to shoot each other.

As far as i know their is only 1 Fort that can attack buildings and thats Mexico’s forts with the age 5 card and the Mexican revolt card.

I would like to see more age 3-4 cards/upgrades that would allow buildings to engage buildings.(keep it limited at first and see where it gos)

Isn’t there a restriction in Aoe3 that your opponent cannot build stuff near your starting town center? Doesn’t that already solve most of this rush cheesing? If two players wanna have a ‘building fight’ outside of their bases, there’s no good reason why they can’t have it?

Thats why i said " a lot"( its more like a few but whatever). The reason why the range building limit is their is because of the randomness of the spawn of resources on each map and to also account for the range of buildings attack.

No more towers on your wood line, walling/tower mines, walling barriers? Basically silly stuff like that have been prevented getting into Aoe3 from Aoe2 as they wanted to be their own distinct game with new and unique openers.

Well, as long as the developers at least give awareness to my argument and take it into consideration (if not, thats fine, I won’t cry louder lol). Where is the best place to post these ideas so they maybe will notice?
I’m very pleased with the amount of proactive effort that has been put into AOE3DE over the years and it seems the devs are listening to the community, that alone makes me happy enough.
