Without an Elite Upgrade the unit is essentially useless.
It doesn’t matter if they have a ranged anti archer unit if it’s so bad that it doesn’t even counter Archers.
In AoE2 every civ has every Feudal Age unit (with the exception of the Scout for American civs). The game is totally different compared to AoM so comparing it is pointless.
Also no cavalry has bonus damage vs. Archers in AoE2 besides the Savar. Literally just one unique cavalry unit has bonus damage vs. Archers while in AoM almost every cavalry unit has bonus damage vs. Archers.
It’s just an entirely different game.
I just checked AoE2, and the only civilization that doesn’t have the technology to make the Skirmisher “elite” is the Turks. That’s because they have the Hand Cannoneer, which is a very long-range unit. So your argument isn’t incorrect. The Skirmisher, or Ranged Anti-Archer, is a necessary and basic unit for the game.
Players are currently lost due to VERY pressing balance issues AND bugs beeing slowly adressed.
Having possibly the Main Event for the game in EGTV this year needing to be played on an old patch is a very poor and sad Manifesto to that. Case closed
Thinking “they leave another product in disaster so they can better serve us” is ridiculous.
Anyone who has worked would see this. If someone (myself included sometimes) messes up two out of three projects, having to drop them or miss the ddl to fulfull the last one, they usually messes up that one too, hard.
At the very moment they are selling less than 1/3 of the content (even less if you consider the work) of a previous DLC but with the same price. It’s only going to get worse.
This is absolutely bull shit. AoE3 only started it’s free trial when Microsoft had pretty much abandoned the game, only releasing 1 single patch in 1.5 years. Microsoft did the absolute bare minimum for AoE3.
They did the minimum because they realised that this game was the black sheep of the Age of Empires licence and, what’s more, it wasn’t profitable enough for them. When the future looks bleak for a video game, it’s best to bet your chips on the best horses.
With all the developments announced for AOM and its port to PS5, we’ll have to take stock in 1 or 2 years’ time, but its future looks much better than that of aoe3.
AOM-R had a better launch than AOE-3. At the time of its release, people were angry about some ideologically influenced changes and didn’t even want to try it.
It was also poorly optimized. Perhaps the pandemic affected its development.
I think that the shutting down of AoE3 is more because of politics rather than profitability of the game. The game did fine.
Also they didn’t make the bare minimum for it. They released another DLC after remake, They fixed up the game, and most important of all they essentially made the game Free to try. None of my friends play AoM with me cause all of them say “it’s just too expensive and never really receives a decent discount”
It’s not going to make any difference whether you buy it or not, a dozen or so people who have decided to boycott the game aren’t going to sink it or ruin its future.
What’s more, your decision seems really childish, you yourself say that the game looks fun but that you’re not going to play it because another game has stopped updating frankly, this kind of behaviour goes a long way for a game and we’re talking about something that only costs 30€, it’s not like boycotting Tesla for example whose motivations I could understand.
Holy strawman argument, Batman! He’s not saying he’s not buying it because a different game stopped being updated, but because of how atrocious the actions were of the managing studio to that game (which as a reminder was promise a DLC, tease it for an entire year, promise balance and QOL updates, and then suddenly abandon the game entirely), and that the studio cannot be trusted nor rewarded, particularly not concerning a game with lower player counts which shares the same engine and dev team as AOE3.
And to refute your points:
1.) If his act of protest can’t sink the game, why does it matter to you? It’s his decision
2) 30€ is not a paltry amount
3.) You openly contradict yourself saying “a dozen or so people who have decided to boycott the game aren’t going to sink it or ruin its future.” and then “this kind of behaviour goes a long way for a game”. Which is it? Does it have an impact or not?
And lastly, as Jean-Jacques Rousseau stated “Insults are the arguments employed by those who are in the wrong.”
Sorry bro, if you see any insults in what I’ve said, go and see your optician, there are no insults.
These things happen in business and you see it as a betrayal because you’re emotionally affected. I think they wanted to get this DLC out in the first place, they had no reason to lie. It was only afterwards that they had to backtrack, so it probably wasn’t with any joy that they cancelled it.
What’s €30? Frankly, it’s not even the price of a month at the gym. Or maybe a low-cost gym.
Yes, I maintain that this kind of boycott by a few ultra of aoe3 has no impact whatsoever. If it was boycotted by several thousand people it would have an impact, but not by a dozen angry ultra fans of aoe3.
Man, the DLC cancellation is just the last straw. You’re missing the whole point.
We’re not crazy fanatics either; it’s just that no one likes being treated like an idiot. We care about the game, just like someone cares about Star Wars or a football team.
It seems very like so, I am sad. I have been playing daily challenge for over a month since IP DLC. However, bugs over bugs make things unplayable and lacking Arena of Gods update is glaring.
I think the phenomenon can be very good explained with the recent flop the Electric state.
As I did by now watch and read 1000 of reviews and critics for various products,
they all point of one thing “Hollywoodised” the movies are, how making a product from mainstreamed rather alienated the existing fanbases. Something fundamentally is going wrong. We see it across games, how people dislike simplifications and streamlining. And they do have a point.
The way AoE2 is, it simply stands out, while Age of Mythology rather feels more similar to other games around.
And this feeling kind of leads to feel you could probably play a more fun and entertaining game right now.
Age of Mythology was and is a great game, it just clearly has issue to push the right buttons. For Base Build I would play AoE4, for God Powers I would play C&C Generals and for competitive I would go back to Starcraft 2. Age of Mythology kind of requires a game mode to stand out.
Competitive: any game is competitive, try ladder, I’m stuck at 1300 elo and I don’t think I can go much higher. If you can compete with Themista, Kvothh etc… then ok bravo champion
To play gods powers go on c&c general : uh no… Just no
Base build : it’s the same in all rts, the principle is to build your base LOL
So uh no… And to criticise AOM for being like the other games in the licence is, how shall I put it?.. It’s a good thing it’s similar! All the games in the Age of Empires licence look the same on paper. That’s normal, and that’s what makes them so strong: the average gamer likes to find similarities when he plays a game from this licence.
Is similarity good concept? Let’s be honest, that’s the main reason I don’t want to watch any more any modern day Hollywood movie, because there is nothing new to see at all.
The hero with goofy sidekick and a bunch of other overused tropes with bad CGI wins vs the bad guy.
Same goes for games, especially RTS game had to go and adjust for a game mode, where one person plays vs another person, and that did lead to alienating like everybody.
People simply have enough of having always the same thing.
