There are big bugs known for months, like the knights templar unit Condottiero has NO COUNTER, heavy infantry but crossbows and others dont do bonus damage.
They do holidays for half a year?
Or am I too impatient and it is normal that fixes like that needs 6 months+?
If you look updates been scarce across the whole franchise with only minor things late June
Maybe the fact they did aoe 3 which was a massive amount of backend work and bug fixing as well as the aoe 2 dlc that come out 2 days apart must be the reason
When that’s done they have about a month before the release of the new dlc in late October
They are doing 3 DLC for the 3 games of the franchise: AoE2 Vikings, AoE3: Modern Vikings, AoE4: More Vikings.
But about balance changes, there was a minor patch in June.
And we got the DLC of Yue Fei’s Legacy in May, with the new civ Jin Dynasty, with some patchs to improve their horse archers and some landmarks.
I suppose the state of balance of AoE4 in this moment is pretty good to don´t get more changes recently:
The end of the “Age of Knights” era, now infantry civs can shinny, with the recent updates of the spearman.
No exploit in the Golden Horde.
Many civs has their counters and advantages.
Or the Devs are very, “Very” exhausted working in the DLC new civs, so we didn´t get any new content until the DLC.
In any cases, they put in “Automatic” the achievement and Events, with a 2 weeks events, so we can get, if not before, many of the past Sigils and Monuments from Events of last years.
Its curiously because in another post, they say Condottiero is the worst unit of the game, jejjejeje.
The perception of this single unit is not equal perceived by the fandom.
Personally, yes, i will say that is very strong, but not invincible:
His weaksness are the Springalds, Heavy Infantry and Knights.
They aren´t not light, but not heavy infantry, more like “Shock melee infantry”, but without the subtype, so they are good aggainst archers, and spearmans, but weak aggainst men-at-arm and Knights, springalds.
Also, because their cost, they are very economical (120g) if the enemy templar has a good eco. Thecnically they cost the same as a men-at-arm, but is their bonus for being the IV age civ units replacement for a civ without gunpowder units.
Shock Infantry
I think they in any moment, the devs have to implement the Subtype “Shock Infantry” or “Medium infantry” to those type of infantry, to improve the Players to find a way to counter them with proper counters.
Now, unlike in AoE 3, which turned them into a kind of “Cavalry shapped as infantry”, I think it would be better if they acted like AoE2, another new type of unit that can have its counters and advantages.
I would suggest that they be generally strong against Archers and ranged units, thanks to their speed and anti-range defense, and because of their modest damage against Spearmen. However, since they don’t have as much damage or resistance as Melee Infantry, they’ll be countered by them and Knights. I didn’t know if it’s good for them to be countered by Springalds. Maybe we could also make them countered by “Light Cavalry” Horsemen, hehehe, so they could have three counters.
Currently, there are only 2 of these unis: Freeborn Warrior (Mali), Condottiero (Venetian - KT)
For the Hints and advances of the DLC, is guessed that Berserker and One of the Scotts unique units gonna be Shock infantry, so they gonna in one moment has to make a way to differentiate those units from the rest.
September 1st should start a new season, and with it a new ‘big’ patch. It’s been said patches would be every 3 months with ‘minor’ patches coming weeks latter.
Now, if the DLC come at (lets say) mid October, then a minor patch should come weeks latter
I wanted to add, considering that the Vikings + Scotts DLC will change some things in the game:
2 more Infantry civilizations, so infantry will be improved.
2 or 3 more Shock Infantry units (Berserker and Unknown Scott Unit), so maybe the developers will create a name for them, along with Condottiero and Freeborn. Medium infantry? Shock infantry?
The first true Pikeman, on the side of the Scots.
Considering what happens with each DLC, they’ll either be very overpowered or have some weaknesses, and the meta will change, so they’ll have to rebalance a month or two later.
I suppose, then, that they don’t want to make any major changes at the moment, which will ultimately affect how they plan to release the new civilizations, or if there are any changes to the existing base civilizations.
I mean, the DLC is probably releasing on mid October, and the season is ending on November 30, and most of the time they take around 4-5 weeks to do balance changes to new civs…so, the math is mathing (?). I hope to se some relevant changes in the next patch, and hopefully it is tomorrow (September 1st).
But yeah, with the last two big patches, is is clear that the infantry is getting finally some love (spearmans, hp+speed, maa cheaper) and now two infantry civs.
It hasn’t been confirmed that the release date is the 29th.
In fact, I’ve searched and haven’t found any forum posts or messages saying that. I thought I saw one once, but then I found out it was for another DLC in 2023.
What i was talking about was about the other unit, with a Axe and a Shield, and latter with a broadsword and a Targe Shield.
I named it “Highlander Charger”, but his name is unknown until now. I named as that because the weapons he use and the way is similar of the technique some Scotts infantry used, “the highland charge” between 1600-1700. Historically: they were good aggainst Muskeeters, so i suppose they gonna be as Condottieros.
Actually, there are 4: Age of Empires 2, 3, Age of Mythology, and Age of Empires 4… Age of Mythology already received its DLCs in March, and Age of Empires 4 had Yue Fei’s Legacy in May… now in September (10th and 22nd) the Baltic DLC for Age of Empires 3 and the Nordic DLC for Age of Empires 2 are coming, and in November the Nordic DLC for Age of Empires 4 is coming…
