Why Russia's Halbs are Fundamentally Poor

because the majortiy of people in this game which are playing mutiplayer cant defend a Russia push and cant create a solid timing - which is unfortunately needed to beat Russia.
So since in low Elo Russia is considered as a strong civilization and all those guys just spamming Inf on Inf into their bases they think its a good civ ^^

In low Elo you also can play Turtle with them, spamming blockhouses over the map. This is unfortunately for a lot of players to hard to beat… its not even meant without respect. But this is my pov from reading forum topics or comments on Youtube Videos^^.

Low elo shouldn’t really be taken into account that much for balance imo just like 1k+ elo, at low elo you can just spam war hut travois everywhere as haud and win lol.

yeah but usually you know the higher players by their name in this forum. So this is what i meant “without respect”. You know relatively early on from which range a topic is coming from just from reading it.
And overall back to what i mentioned - This is just how it goes in lower elo and is totally fine since i believe any elo step is playing their own game in terms of Meta etc. Also a lot of traffic in this forums comes from those Elo Regions (which is pretty good because it shows that they are trying). And therefor you often read Russia is too strong, the Rush is too strong. I just have repeated words and povs.

Hahaha in fact I preferred the way it was before so I didn’t have to research the veteran upgrade to get them out at age 3

I am so very deeply confused by this PUP delay thing. This rework was done in this actual patch right?

I hardly ever find Russia in PvP so this makes it worse lol.

the russia rework has been quite the disappointment tbh. None of the changes have helped russia’s fundamental problems in this meta. We must also remember that the halbs are only produced in batches of 4, rather than 5 like ruskets which makes the unit even worse for massing.

Age2 Poruchik is just a Rekrut without ranged attack. No meaning to use it in age2. This is just a nerf to Rus, as Rus now should do veteran upgrade for Poruchik to use it in age3 and church upgrade cost is increased because of Poruchik veteran upgrade.

I can’t believe a user in this discussion flagged my opinion as inappropriate. What is this hidden agenda?
I completely disagree with some of the comments in this thread. Russia is now OP. It is the most common homecity chosen on multiplayer. The Age 2 and Fortress rush is unstoppable now. The Poruchik has at least twice as powerful versus cav as the musketeer. If not triple. The reason is the reach, speed and lack of a swithc to melee animation. It easily snags and kills enemy cav. There are two major buffs to them in age 3. Now there is no way to counter Russia until Age 4. On top of this you have low cost 1 pop cav being sent in shipments of 4 and 5. Then they added the grenadier card in age 2 which is reserved to only a few civs that are much less powerful. As if Russia needed another age 2 buff. In my low-elo matches, the Russians are pounding the tables and are unstoppable.

the thing with poruchik is that they trains in batches at a faster time than other halb batches. The only thing I’d add is a speed card similar to dutch Tully’s. 5.25 speed halbs might be decent enough.

What’s your rank? That should be enough to shed light on why you’re claiming what you are. Russia is underpowered by all accounts right now. Age 2 Halbs don’t start with Age 3 Halb speed - the speed is nerfed until age 3.

To be fair, Russia is still prelevant at low ELO where they still do very well, but once you move up, they disappear. This was valid before the rework as well

So you have no way to refute the points that I make? You reply with a take on some unknown “rank”. I am active on several discords and MP and am qualified enough. I didn’t even mention that Russia gets major discounts on units, vills and even housing (with the age up card). Russian will not excel at long treaty, but at supremacy in age 2, 3 and early 4 they are unstoppable with the new changes.

they’re about 10% better. hp and armour are the same, dmg is a very small amount better. the melee switch, or the lack thereof lets them usually get one extra swing in. that’s not double or triple. they also cost much more than a rusket and train in batches of 4. there’s no advantage to them.

What do you mean?

in supremacy, age 2.
. not age 5 where the devs continue to just keep adding unit buffs to russian infantry

once the Poruchik with all his technologies have been developed and his cards shipped, I would go as far as to say that he is the best halberdier in the game. It won’t be the strongest, but considering its cost and instant training it’s the best halberdier and one of the best melee units (hopefully they don’t nerf it). However, his performance at age 2 is the one that is being questioned.

I agree. I’m glad to see that there are people here with great expertise like Dansil.
One thing I think no one has pointed out is that a key role this halb unit is to stop flank movements by cav. This is key in early age 3 fights that usually win Supremacy. Previously Russia had to mass a large body of muskets around their artillery because muskets are so bad at snaring Cav in the first few seconds of being adjacent in the battle. Correct me if I’m wrong as It is a suspicion: Halbs seem to have some kind extra reach that snags an entire cavalry flank even if it appears there was no contact. I haven’t seen this with muskets.
This would make this new unit key to the Russian meta both early and late.

They dont only pikes get extra range in their melee attack in an update a while back.

The only kind of benefit they get is that with musket there is a slight delay to switching to melee attack
