Will there be another DLC for AoE II this year?

After VaV will there be another surprise DLC for AoE II DE this year? I’m hoping that all the current civs get their own campaigns before the addition of new civs.

Hard to tell given that AoM comes out next month, the China rework is also scheduled for 2024 as well as an AoE 3 DLC.

Just so people don’t get their wires crossed; I assume you’re talking about AoM China?

Indeed! Should’ve clarified that probably

The teams handling these two streams are different. I don’t think the Chinese AOM DLC is not even ready. I think it is some way down the pipeline and ready to go in a few months.

Maybe not. But a 25th year anniversary surprise is always welcome.

I sure hope we get a “standard” 2 new civ DLC yet this year…I have nothing to go off of to speculate if, but here’s hoping it does.

As in a civ like Sicilians (earlier dlcs with few major differences)?

While I do want more civs per DLC. A 2-civ pack of:

  • Tibetans
  • Tanguts
  • Chinese campaign

and

  • Khitans
  • Jurchens
  • Korean campaign

Would be such a good way to round out East Asia.

hoping for 2 DLCs 4 civs at least though they prob wont be able to churn out 2 DLCs in just 5 months remaining

maybe at least just 1 DLC for 2-3 civs

Tibetans, Khitans, Jurchens and Chinese/Korean campaigns with new architecture sets for Mongols/Khitans/Tibetans and the Chinese/Koreans/Jurchens. What a dream this would be.

This is the most realistic option - 2 brand new civs + 3-4 new Campaigns. The Nomadic Architecture Set is a huge dream and something extremely necessary.

Why not a third civ like the DOI DLC? I think Chinese should be reworked with a new UU as well. Maybe Hwacha for Koreans/Chinese or something new for the Chinese. Maybe something from the AOE4 roster like Fire Lancer.

The number of campaigns per dlc has been more consistant in DE than the number of civs. I don’t know whether it’s because creating a new civ takes actually less time and resources than creating new campaigns or because someone in the dev team has a weird ###### for this model, but that’s what we got even in RoR which otherwise broke the mold in every way. So I think the main reason why we got a third civ in DoI was because Prithviraj could be slightly reworked as the Gurjara campaign…
In fact, I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if we got a dlc for East Asia that’s just campaigns for Chinese, Koreans and Japanese released alongside a rework for all three civs. And maybe another dlc would add three entirely new civs, that wouldn’t be entirely inconceivable either.

If they want to do a “rework and campaigns” DLC for the E. Asian campaigns I feel like they gotta at least have 1 new civ or it won’t sell terribly well. Maybe that’s where Siamese comes in, because it’s generally Asian but in an area (SE Asia) where there isn’t really room for any other new civ other than Siamese; most others in that area are already represented.

Replace Tanguts with Nanzhao (or whatever the appropriate demonym would be) and I’m sold. It would kinda be like having LoTW and DoTD back to back, both with roughly the same thematic, almost like one big DLC split into two smaller ones.

I’d like to see both of them in a new East Asian DLC and plus the Jurchens

There’re still a few potential SE Asian civs left apart from the Siamese, such as the Chams, the Mons, and perhaps the Javanese.

To round up East & SE Asia I think we still need 3 DLCs at least

An East Asian DLC featuring Baipu (demonym for Nanzhao and Dali), Jurchens, and Tanguts + Chinese campaigns

Another Central Asian DLC featuring Gokturks and Tibetans + Korean campaigns (or Japanese campaigns) + new North Asian architecture for Gokturks, Mongols, and Tibetans

And finally a SE Asian DLC featuring Chams and Siamese (could add the Mons if we have enough space)

Guys before asking to divide too much Chinese you have to consider how delicate is the censorship in China regarding that, long time ago one FE dev stated in the AOK Heaven discord that even if they wanted to add a Tibetan civ in AOE 2, MS wouldn’t allow that due to the geopolitical issues would face MS with China, so even if a East Asian DLC is wanted, is highly unlikely that will happen in the near future.

Well if Tibetans are problematic then we still have Baipu, Jurchens, and Tanguts who to the best of my knowledge aren’t censored by the Chinese government since they no longer exist as ethnic groups.

And Uyghurs can be covered by the Gokturks, whom AFAIK aren’t censored either.

All in all I still see an East Asian DLC as possible.
