One thing I really enjoyed with the original game was playing with my sister but controlling the same player. Will the definitive edition contain this feature?
You can actually do this, all you have to do is share the same colour with the person you want to share the game

Beta participants are sworn to secrecy so your best bet is asking Microsoft Studios or Forgotten Empires.
Thanks yes getting such an answer may be tricky and probably needs asking the developers. Even if beta players say the feature does not exist it may on release. Still if a developer sees this then an answer would be nice. 
They confirmed they will add LAN in the news. No idea if shared control will stay, but unless they purposefully disallow it, then it’ll still be there.
