I heard rumours that AOE:DE will be not only Windows, but also Windows Store exclusive, which means that it will unfortunately lack features like Steam Workshop and that’s a huge bummer for me. So if anyone could please give me some sort of confirmation on this that would be great. Thanks!

It has been confirmed by developers and forum moderators that the game will be exclusive to MS Store and Windows 10. However, as seen in E3 most of MS’s exclusive are exclusive for a given time (usually one month or more of exclusivity) this May make room for the future to be available on Steam or other online game distribution store.
Note: But of course this is just fan speculation!!

Windows 10 required with August 2016 Anniversary Update installed.
It is possible that AoE:DE will announce a Steam release at a later date because many fans have asked for it over the past month since the game was announced.

Surely Steam and Xbox Live have different servers so would split the community? I’m not an expert on these things though.
Currently it’s annoying having the current Aoe community split between Gameranger and Voobly.

Pick one, either the most popular community wide or the most preferred among you and your friends and stick with it. 
I’m the only one of my RL friends who plays computer games but yeah I’m sticking with Voobly as prefer the interface and HD patch. It is a problem though as a divided community isn’t as strong and takes longer to get a game. If Steam and Windows Store have separate servers I wouldn’t expect compatibility between the two if they release a Steam Version. This would screw early adopters as might have to buy the game twice.

There are several games on Steam which connect to Xbox LIVE. Not sure what the limitations are if any compared to Windows Store games. PC platform by nature is flexible.

If AOE:DE will be on steam the sales will spike.
Again they for now prefer not publish than gives more sales to Steam.
This AoE : DE is for increasing Windows store gaming or sales or whatever.

I hope you’re right and it’s only a month of exclusivity in the Windows Store, unless you do a physical edition collector or normal edition I’m going to wait for it to come out on Steam.
