On the PC side there is no ‘Gold’ subscription required for MP.
The uses Xbox LIve MP just means that it uses the Xbox Live infrastructure for matchmaking. On PC this basically means installing the Xbox App on Windows 10 and that’s it. There is no recurring charge which is different from the consoles

this woudl be extremelyl difficult on PC. Steam is already the de-facto standard for gaming and offers free MP capabilities. Origin also has built in MP via its Origin client and does nto charge a subscription. uPlay doesn’t charge for MP.
The marketplace makes it neigh impossible to charge for MP access due to robust free options available
Now of course they can incentivise you in other ways. Like providing exclusive content, or exclusive access to specific things if such a theoretical subscription were to appear.
But thats why the store needs to be successful so they can lock the OS and other stores are not available.
If you have the monopoly you can start asking cash, nothing people can do.

Only some will be chosen…no one knows yet how many.
