15y MOBA/FPS player, new in AOE4 a few stuff you can easily improve

-Multiple default configs, for example i use WASD camera i need remap my whole keys. DOTA ask you how you play the game at first launch or when you reset hotkeys. I want a recommended hotkey profile by devs with WASD camera

-Having a chance to import/export hotkey config so we can use pro players hotkeys or save our hotkeys

-A gamemode where we can test our configs, hotkeys and civs in real time

-Your attack behavior its weird at the best, multiple times im in the middle of the fight while making new enemies, the new ones stops in the middle of the route when that unit or structure died. Doesnt matter if its right click or A+Click. You need improve that, and put way more options of right click attack. I have in my mind the picture of my army of 100 units and my 6 bombards doing nothing, literally nothing. They just get stuck

Dota have this: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

-Make a tutorial for each civ, you can even make real time suggestion made by players

-Your matchmaking its the worse, from dota, overwatch or csgo this is the worse i ever faced but i still having fun because the game its solid good. Just to consider im lvl 20 profile i face people lvl 600+ in quick matches, and for rankeds i lost 5 of 5 against gold all of them and i calibrated bronze 1. After i got bronze 1 im playing against non rank players

Im an actual bronze/silver player, i suck. I have no micro, no macro, im just new in this game, but i not want face lvl 500+ dudes who have years in this game makes no sense matchmaking exists for a reason, loosing its fine, loosing everytime its not

-Microing in RTS game its core, its the most important mechanic skill you need learn to improve. The faster you are with the units, faster grow up, faster victory. But please make something easier for starters, Smart grouping, smart attacking, fix your auto attack behavior, you can even open a subwindow for holding right click and put 4 different options (customizable)

-Selecting all units camera go away, works weirdly if in combat and i want go all in with 30 units in my base and 70 attacking the enemy base, i want my “select all units” focusing in the combat and not in my base

Im a player who had in the past high rank in fps games and dota. I use WASD camera, my average apm its 300+ there so its not a problem for me press multiple keys, but i feel AOE4 doesnt take the actions i want ingame

Thats all i have in my mind for now

thanks

If you are in that level of newbie consider getting into some singleplayer campaigns.

A lot from the game is explained there.

To learn a civ I suggest go alone in a map, and explore the civ. Create some units of each, check the landmarks, think about sinergies, etc…

When you have explored the basics, then check some tutorials and build orders. Build orders are without any doubt the best start to get in touch with a civ.

Once you learn the basic of a civ, you can test new things.

100% agree with you, matchmaking is the worst. I was in conqueror I-II last season, and I can’t get rid of diamond I this season. I keep getting platinum and gold people in my team and high diamonds and conquerors in the other. Plus It’s usual to get someone disconnected and a free lose. And for some reason always is in my team.

I played AOE4 campaign, i also can beat ai in hardest (Ai its just super passive, only scout attack my buildings) So consider a dude who is bronze can beat hardest ai

Matchmaking its so random, i face new players like me who doesnt attack never and i get giga big at point where i have 8 keep and a wonder or i get a gold dude who start killing my wokers at 4min and he stay in my base. Honestly at some point i dont know what to do there, if i start creating units i already have a disavantage so far from now what i do i move these workers in the other corner of the map and at least i keep farming

There is a huge difference from ai and real players even if they are low rank

About learning, tutorials, and practicing each civ i just ask for a demo mode where you can spawn units and face against units or stuff like that, a test mode

Dota have it, overwatch have it, warframe have it , every game i play have a test mode where you can test and see what happen, here you need create a lobby and thats not the point

There’s a mod for this, I don’t remember the name right now, but it exists.

You can test civs, units, spawn things, and fight.

I think rushing and raids are an essential part of the game but they are probably the most frustrating part to learn at first, since you learn to counter with experience. There might be some videos out there but the basics are this:

  • Scout the enemy: As soon as you hear the enemy has aged up (specially if it is an English or French) have your scout somewhat near their base so that you can see with anticipation when they are going to attack.
  • Grow under your town center: If the enemy uses melee (like the French) it’s somewhat easy just be under the town center.
  • It costs the enemy: Remember that every early unit is a hefty investment, so the enemy is also at an economic disadvantage. With this info, are you going to use the same resources to just grow, or create an army to match?
  • Have a plan: Have a plan and commit to it. Do you plan to age up quickly to caslte or are you having a feudal army? AoE is a very fast game, so if you start heavily improvising every single game you will have difficulties and it is harder to see what you want come to fruition. Example: you build an archery in the minute 5 but you decided to change to horsemen immediately, this will cause you trouble in the early stages of the game since the cost of the archery itself+ upgrades + units starts to snowball into a situation where you don’t have enough resources to pump out a lot of army quickly nor age up, so you have to choose carefully what is the best for the current situation.
  • Adapt: What is the difference between improvising and adapting? Adapting (in this game) is a measured response that you can take when you are exploring and can start acting on a counter before the enemy attacks. Improvisation is trying to do something when the units are already on your base, so this means you are always one step behind. (example, Adapt: you see a french doing the school of cavalry, so you can a) rush a lot of villagers to gold, so that you can accrue enough to age up to castle with the tranquility of just abandoning the gold; or b) start doing barracks and spearmen right away, so you have a few when the rush starts. . // Improvisation: you are minding your business when suddenly a knight appears, juggling the villagers back an forth makes it difficult to concentrate. You do barrack but by the time the first spearman goes out, there are already too many knights and 3 of them just one shot your spear. the enemy already saw your barracks so he is already preparing an archery. The game just snowballs in one direction after that.)
  • Use the keyboard: Start by using F1 to F4. Clicking a key in your mouse is way faster than looking for a building with your mouse. Start by using the keyboard at leat to keep pumping Villagers with the town center (using the H key or the F1 key to select a town center). Takes a few matches to get used to it but it is very worth it

AoE has quite the learning curve, but it is very fun when you get the ropes of this kind of stuff. I hope these tips help you going forward.
