Finally truly SP contents”. Probably the last two DLCs sold very very bad with negative reviews.

That’s what casual players were asking for: well done Developers.

A 2026 full of contents and 2027 with a reveal of the new title.

Ha.

What a miserable way to spin good news.

Reviews are negative. It’s not me. Sultan’s Ascend, as the opposite, sold very well.

But i’m Happy for new Campaign and civilizations. Finally.

Genuinely hopeful for 2026 in the way everything was presented here.

They’ve laid out their cards. They’ve revealed that they are working on two expansions. The first sounds like a story based one, the second will feature two entirely new civilizations. Not only are they announcing all of this essentially a year ahead of schedule, they’re actually telling us what is in the content instead of teasing us about it. People can argue all they like about the content, but we at least know what is up ahead.

This is wonderful, frankly, is all I’ve wanted from these developers. I’m finally content. I’m not much of a story player, but I dig Chinese history and I’m strongly considering purchasing the first DLC just to support them.

As for AoE2 and AoM? South American civilizations + Aztec is incredibly hype. It almost makes me wonder if the second civilization for AoE4 will be Aztec, Mayan or Inca to line up this theme, though I strongly suspect it’ll be Spanish seeing as Vikings were picked (popularity seems to win here). Though, then again, They did deliver Malians with Ottoman, so who knows?

Either way, they’ve regained my trust and endorsement. Here’s to another decade of AoE!

“After the huge successes of Knights of Cross and Rose and Dynasties of the East this year, we’re excited to share what’s next for Age of Empires IV.”

It must have been a success for the budget they had for development, that’s for sure.

And just because a DLC has polarized reviews doesn’t mean it won’t sell.

About this prospective, yes, maybe you are right. Considering the budget, they have been satisfied, after all.

Yes, me too. When developers made something that i like i’ll always plaude them.

Glad I was wrong about not geting a proper Vikings civ after the weird Byzantines variant.

Seems like they’re taking a page out of the 2DE playbook with campaign DLCs.

Happy for you guys  I’ll be keeping watch.

GREAT!!!

I’m very glad for the news.

In fact, a sea of theories is already surfacing on Discord about what the possible second civilization besides Vikings might be. Many thinks it will be Spain.

…

VIKINGS

Wait, are they seriously going to call it Vikings?

Not Daneslaw or Nordics?

Oh well. Then we’ll have to consider Norway, Denmark, and Sweden as future variants of this Viking civilization.

I’m going to make a small concept of my Viking civilization then.

Lots of theorizing to do, and time to get to work.

I think it’s a little silly to call them “Vikings”. Especially as a main civ, not a variant. It’s kind of like calling a civ “Samurai".

I assume it’s just for name recognition.

I’d rather they were called Norse or something.

They have to consider rework Macedonian Dynasty and give those Varangian Units to Vikings

I’m guessing you haven’t read many recent reviews for Dynasties of the East. Overwhemingly, negative reviews feature MP balance complaints, and beyond that, Variants (and beyond that, the perk bug in the Crucible, and things like the MP map pool). Interestingly, the developers are replying to some of them.

The Crucible tends to get nothing but praise, even in negative reviews.

I’m a casual developer, and I love the Crucible. I’m also looking forward to the new DLC. Please stop speaking for people who aren’t you.

I’m so glad. I thought Relic Entertainment couldn’t afford to develop a base civilization for financial reasons. Especially after the Macedonian Dynasty was released, I thought the Norse european civilization would never be released. (I thought the Macedonian Dynasty was just a scaled-down dwarf version of the Viking civ.)

What else will be in the Chinese campaign DLC coming next spring? Will they rename Zhu Xi’s Legacy to be historically accurate? Another Chinese variant?

They had to add more variants to round out the first 4 that they added. I’m excited to see what else is in store for these expansions!

I adore our stalwart skeptics, though there appears to be a commonly held belief that the expansions did poorly this year… they actually set records. Facts matter!

People thought a lot of things, or in many cases insisted certain things were true and spread them wide, despite us really not having a clue.

I saw several insisting we’d never get non-variant civs again.

Anytime something new comes out for the game there are a few people who loudly proclaim we’re on a downward spiral, the end is nigh.

It’s possible it’s campaign only, AoE2 has done that before. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is something else in there though. I suspect a campaign only expansion would be much less popular.

Fix Tickrate, Input lag, Shift-queue commands getting lost and many other bugs pls!

I’m happy they decided to announce in advance that we’ll have new unique civilizations.
It was even cooler that they already announced one of them, the Vikings!

But as I was predicting… everything indicates that the teams are divided… with some working on variants and others on new campaigns and unique civilizations.
It seems they prepared for this moment in 2026, since in the last two years the content was less (no campaigns and no unique civilizations).

So I’m curious to know what the schedule will be for 2027, 2028, 2029, and 2030! Will they have managed to prepare in these last two years and think about what the new future civilizations and campaigns will be like?

I personally bought ALL the DLCs before release and I intend to continue buying and supporting the game (my family does the same).

I consider Age of Empires IV the most “enjoyable” game in the series, in terms of gameplay, and I expect many new things in the coming years!

I also hope to see more basic things coming… like new “animals” for each biome and new colors to choose from when selecting civilizations (team colors).

That’s not going to happen.
Because after all those invasions of Europe, the Vikings ended up scattered and incorporating themselves into other civilizations over the years… So, they didn’t really invent this idea of Vikings in Macedonia without any basis.

What matters now is what new units will come for the Vikings. And which ones will be similar or the same…

We will see
Maybe Varangian are taken away and make it part of Vikings NEW Civ
