2024 Redbull Wololo Non-Annoucement

Aoe just had a huge PR video communicatiion come out and no mention of Aoe4 being included in the Rebull Wololo 2024.

No one in the Aoe4 community (pros, casters) seemingly have been contacted, unless they are under NDAs…but not even a HINT from anyone.

If Microsoft abandons Aoe4 in Redbull Wololo they are killing the game and their investment in the game. What’s the logic?! OK GREAT EVERYONE SULTANS ASCEND MOST SELLING EXPANSION EVER - but sorry, we won’t support Aoe4 being included in Redbull Wololo.

You guys need to address this or it’s going to piss off a lot of people.

I think the Red Bull tournament is guided more by the tournament organizers than Microsoft itself. The tournaments are typically announced halfway through the year, and wololo including aoe 4 has been inconsistent over the last 2 years. EGC is currently hosting a tournament, The Elite Classic II, and there are tons of tier 2 tournaments that have happened this year. No doubt the wololo will come back for this year, though it may only feature aoe 2. We just don’t know, and again, they don’t normally announce it until may-june… this tournament is more than likely going to happen in october.

I figure there’s always going to be a bit of anxiety between seasons, I think it’s totally valid and the people who manage community outreach should have more press packages for updates. A roadmap would be the best thing to include in future patch notes, we may have less people fearful of the game not having a future if we could see that there is one planned, especially tournaments!

No Major AoE4 lan this year could negatively impact future of AoE 4 and consequently sales of future addons.

It does not have to be a RB Wololo. But, there has to be something big. The AoE4 esports scene and especially the fans are the major force keeping the game dynamics alive. Maybe one in three people of active player base make part of AoE4 esports and esports fans. But, these are the people who keep motivatiing and asking the non-esports-people/fans to play the game. If Relic and Microsoft are not able to understand this cause-and-effect link future sales will be massively impacted, negatively! Opportunity cost on the line cannot be underestimated (turnover not being realised despite being available)!

What I still not get is the continiously weak marketing and community support. Around the world North America is praised for its marketing knowhow. However, Relic and Microsoft Games somehow do not get it done. This already has been resulting in massive opportunity costs.

AoE4 is the most watchable rts-esports-game out there. Despite its extremely high complexity AoE4 is still a comparatively accessible rts game which is not about pure apm but foremost about making the right choices at the right moment. At least for me it is currently the rts game with the biggest potential for growth and longevity.

Furthermore, many people have no problem with (limited, optional) ingame sales for styles, items etc. Why not bring it in?

The official calendar is also empty for this month of April and May:

In fact, it even seems like they forgot that they were going to open an event for AoE IV in May about knight jousting. In my opinion they don’t have many people working well in marketing, or in the IT section of the main page, which would explain the empty calendar for all the games.

Although it’s not like nothing is happening in other games:
– In AoE3 there is a new monthly challenge to get a hero skin and keep us glued to the game.
– In AoEM, A new Dev Column is available, so our feedback would reach developers directly. (Yeah!)
– In AoE2 there are always new mods and custom campaigns or scenarios, as well as promotion on the official Twitter page of the Age of Empire franchise (AoE IV, where did you go?)

Is the management of he calendar okay?

One might wonder how the official web page is managed: A).- if they give control of each subsection of the page to each company in charge of the development of each game, B).- or is there a team in charge waiting for receive news from each of the development groups to post new articles, and if they do not receive anything they cannot publish anything.

In any case, until now there is no signal of a Redbull Wololo for AoE IV, nor any cup in the calendar section. Is the calendar section supposed to be informative? Take care.

An update on the situation from Aussie_Drongo: https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe4/comments/1cg1bm4/aoe4_is_announced_for_red_bull_wololo_the_leak/

We will be seeing AoE4 Redbull wololo games, prize pool of $50,000 USD, all the usual pros in attendance. As I stated earlier in the thread, they didn’t announce last time until May, so this matches previous timing.

The official page: https://www.redbull.com/int-en/events/red-bull-wololo-el-reinado

It has another exciting addition, albeit aoe4 unrelated, AoM Retold will also be featured!

Red Bull Wololo: El Reinado comprises four titles in which competitors will be able to prove themselves worthy:

  • Age of Empires I (played using Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, Return of Rome)

  • Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition

  • Age of Empires IV

  • Age of Mythology: Retold

Empire Wars…

1 Lan match…

Strange mappool…

Honestely, AoE4 community has to put up own major lan tournament.

I would wish that leading AoE4 influencers, tournament organizers and community figures do combine their efforts for one major lan every year. Despite being a niche AoE4 is actually quite attractive for potential sponsors.

But, I would recommend better marketing and actual sales efforts, maybe even cold calling or at least organized lead generation. Only very few sponsors simply come to you. There must be people in the scene who work in the space of marketing and sales, and help AoE4 influencers and tournament organizers to improve.
