2DE things that should be on 1DE

Alright, I’m not angry about something like that and I understand your intention, but I think it makes more sense to continue the old threads instead of creating new ones.

Many greetings.

How about a game speed that matches the rate of AoE: 2 DE? I feel like things are too fast on 1.5x speed and too slow on 1x speed. A new ‘casual’ speed for beginners will be really nice.

How about civilization balance updates for siege units? Stone throwers just suck.

I mean, you would like to have 1.25 speed, right? I think it would match (though not exactly the same) Age of Empires 2: DE casual speed. Like something in between.

Yes, but I a couple of weeks have passed since I posted that and I started playing at 1.5x speed since then and I have gotten quite used to it but I still think a 1.25x speed will be useful for beginners who don’t want to rush. The only problem I have now with the original is the swordsmen line and the AI. Swordsmen should be an upgrade to the Axemen.

Axemen exist even in Iron Age due to the fact that they are cheap units, compared to Swordsmen, which “evolve” into other military units up to Legions.

But they typically don’t stand a chance against other infantry, a single academy unit can take dozens of them out before dying.

I think solution should be that axeman gets a upgrade either in bronze or iron age. Perhaps axeman upgrade should be falxman. Also it would be good idea if scouts get also upgrade into light cavalry either from bronze or iron.

Here as some ideas how these units should look like:

Upgrade to Axeman:
Falxman - Bronze age unit: 60 HP, 6 Attack and 10% faster than swordsman
Heavy Falxman - Iron Age unit: 85 HP, 10 Attack, 1 Armor and 10% faster than swordsman

Upgrade to Scout:
Light Cavalry - Bronze age unit: 75 HP, 6 Attack, 10% faster than normal cavalry line, has 2x conversion resistance and will be available to civs that doesn’t have melee chariots.
Light Lancer/Sarissa Cavalry - Iron age unit: 100 HP, 8 Attack, 1 pierce armor, +2 bonus damage vs archers, 10% faster than normal cavalry line and has 2x conversion resistance.

Upgrade to Slinger:
Heavy Slinger its either Bronze or Iron age unit: 35 HP, 3 Attack, 6 Range, 3 Pierce Armor and has same bonuses as normal slinger.

That is one reason why I am for a Elite-Axefighter.

You can’t make a unit that doesn’t cost gold that strong. An axeman upgrade would render the Short Sword useless. There are some civs that do not upgrade to Broad Sword (Egyptians, Yamato, Greeks). Yes, I would agree if this unit had a bonus or that it would serve as a counter only against some type of unit.

Something I do agree, an improvement for the Scout for those civs that do not have Chariots would be quite balanced, especially in the late game when the gold runs out.

I really like that light cavalry model it looks nice.

I am aware that axeman upgrade has some issues with some civs who only get short sword. Falxman would still be weaker than its swordsman counterparts. Not every civ is suppose to get these upgrades or atleast the final version.

So many amazing ideas here for new content to the first AoE game. Hopefully you guys get some new content, this is the only DE who didn’t get the winter celebration event.

Is just Age 1, who cares…

I am for axeman upgrade in ironage. Short swordsmen are then useless anyway.

I heard that AoE DE has a growing community in Brazil and Vietnam. Hopefully atleast two patches per year for the game will do wonders if executed properly.

which two patches?^^

AoE II: DE has become so fun to play the original is just a pain to go back to now. The bad AI is the worst part.

Atleast two more patches next year? It seems that any support for this game is hold or worst no more.

I still have a dream…

My dream is still that they port AoE1 to AoE2’s version of the Genie Engine. Unfortunately this is highly unrealistic but a small hope lives on.

Last week I tried to play one of the campaigns because I couldn’t play them on release due to the bugs, the dumb AI etc. and well, I couldn’t play them now either. It’s still a buggy mess.
