3 Kingdoms DLC thoughts

I have to say I’m dissapointed by the new DLC.

I love most of the feautures, obviously the new graphical changes are great. Gameplay features like new rocket cart alternative to the mangonel, fire lancers and rework of old civs to match these changes are also great.

Jurchens and Khitans are civs, that look like they will work in the AoE2 design. I mostly like them, even though they have some quirkiness to them, but that’s kinda usual with new civs from dlcs and I don’t blame devs to bring something new to the core game.

I’d pay €15-20 just for this, even without campaigns (although I’d like 2-4 new campaigns for these new civs + Chinese or Koreans).

Although the 3 Kingdoms civs are just wierd to me. These are the only ones that get singleplayer content and they are put into MP too. Their design is quite assymetrical, they feel like they would work in isolated space (like the Greek Chronicles civs?!) as they seem to be 3 specialists civs (archers; cavalry; infantry - (like the Greek Chronicles civs?!). Abilities of the units and Heroes look like they were designed mainly for singleplayer scenarios or special isolated skirmishes (like the Greek Chronicles civs?!)

Greek chronicles civs are cool, great, they have fun design, but I know they would feel off, not only by historical standpoint, but mainly from civ design perspective in ladder melee games. So I was glad that the devs didn’t incorporate them and made them separate “game” - I think this is the best sollution.

This just seems, that 2 DLCs were planned and slopped together and now we have Khitans and Jurchens (with no other far east civilizations we were hoping for unfortunately) under the flag of The Three Kingdoms (which makes no sense) with no medieval era campaigns and with 3 other civs that are too assymetrical to the old civs.

Also take note, that I wasn’t really minding, when they put Romans in the game. It was AoE2 mostly symetrical civ with some quirks, but didn’t really feel odd. They were clearly designed for the base game and totally different from RoR AoE1 civs and design.

I’d buy the DLC if the devs considered to put them to separate game like the greek chronicles and put them out of skirmish modes and base game completely. It’s just wierd to have Chinese and then Shu, Wei and Wu. It’s like you would make a Bohemia DLC, where we would have civs like Samo’s kingdom, Great Moravia and Premyslid’s Bohemia alongside the og Bohemians and even that would make more sense.

Have a great day and I hope, that the game continues to thrive.

RoR is my first. VV is my second.

What a drama. Don’t buy it and we don’t need to know.

But I intended to let you know.

This is just performative nonsense.

Ok I will change the title of the topic to make it “less dramatic” but still my points in the article last, I wanted to hear some of other peoples opinion on the dlc and civ designs.

Go buy it we don’t need to know.

That’s why I don’t tell it.

don’t question it, just consoom!
