Would just like to state on the night of AoMR’s early access release that when I booted up 3DE for the first time I had to remind myself I was playing a remaster of a game from 2005 (performance issues notwithstanding) 3DE looks, plays, and feels modern.
Could the game be better optimized? Yep! Would it benefit from some of the engine fixes that AoMR rectified? Yep! The positives outweigh the negatives and I feel like 3DE has really done AoE3 justice.
This isn’t my bias talking but just a deep appreciation for the original game and what FE/Tantalus has done with 3DE. We all know how poorly the launch went but as I sit here ruminating about all the updates, DLCs, and everything our devs have put into the game over the past four years I just want to give thanks to those who toiled away on the game to make an already enriching experience that much richer.
Are things perfect? no, and you know what? I’ve never played a perfect game before. All we can do is strive to make this game the best it can be. We know the devs do the best with what they are given.
We have a DLC coming after a 2 year absence which speaks volumes. As frustrated as we can get with the treatment over the years I think it’s important to have threads like this every once and a while too. What the future holds beyond this DLC is unknown but we know AoE3 is turning 20 next year. Let us sit back and enjoy the great game we have.
Hahaha, the best they can do? If they don’t even play the game themselves, otherwise there would be such horrible changes as they almost always did. I hope that at least they apply the improvements they made to the graphics engine to this one, since it seems that it has been in beta since 2020. I am interested in the fact that they can still do something to add some cards, optimize and balance things, also the lobby ranked team. For me, the DLC is killing the game from what it already is.
Yes, I think we should first wait for the new DLC to be released and then next year we’ll see what they have planned for the 20th anniversary of the original game (hopefully 2 DLCs and one similar to VaV but for AoE 3)…
Chill out dude, you are talking like the game was perfect and immaculate before DE. It was not. There has been objectively many improvements that make the game better for everyone except those old players that doesn’t want anything to change. The game it’s in the best state ever. Could be better? YES. Needs improvements? OF COURSE! But it’s not a dead or broken game
Literally anyone I talk to on voice chat tells me the same thing, everyone has the same criticism, even the pros, pathfinding, balance, civ DLC, changes etc everything is a fiasco, the only people I see with altered illusions are here, I don’t know if they are very casual players or what, the game is very good I agree if it had been done well, because possibly all of us who played the old one continue playing the game because we fell in love with it.
Now explain to me why this false positivity after being marginalized by Red Bull for being an unviable game, that not even the spectator mode works, if it were like that how do they say that the devs do their best? it’s a bad joke to say that, when since its launch they were incredibly slow in fixing many things about performance, in fact we are still privileged to have our computer that we have to play the game, because many people could not even run the “definitive” version, it’s almost September and there is still no patch, it’s not like last year there were patches frequently, it just seems like the worst time because it seems that they don’t care anymore, the leak of the flags of the new civs is from years ago and when they had to show something of the preview they showed absolutely nothing, I don’t know anything, it’s not the devs’ fault, it comes from higher up, however, just the way they make patches you realize, it’s still a bad joke to say that they do the best, so bro I leave it like that because, we have had the inquisitor broken in team games for years, with the Russia team card, you still think that this game is good, Hakkapelita that didn’t make any sense the buff it received years ago, now it’s broken again because the devs thought it was a good idea to combine a card in age 2, which would improve speed, send you 3 and you can create it in age 2 xD, Team games ladder has always been garbage because of the imbalance, the 1v1 during the first 3 years too
Besides all problems the game has since its original 2005 launch and the Definitive Edition Remaster, the mistreatments of the company, the lack of big tournaments, sponsor and partnerships, AOE 3 is my favorite of the series.
The main reason?
It is the only Age that has its setting in the Early Modern History Period/Industrial Revolution, which I like the most. It spans since the age of Discovery of the New World in 1492 to 1876
Medieval is represented twice in the Series. The Long term AOE 2, and its remake AOE IV
Ancient/Classic Antiquity is represented in 3 games. AOE 1, AOM, and AOE Online (yes AOE Online was a thing, I still play it and has a cartoon art style that I enjoy, actually)
I hope the company sees the same way, rather than competing its game against each other just because they are all “RTS games with different skins”. The setting matters a lot.
Yes, I agree with everything… I couldn’t have said it better… AoE 3 will be everything it is, but at least it doesn’t repeat the hackneyed antiquity or the Middle Ages…
